FT4JA JUAN DE NOVA DXPEDITION NEWS. The following was sent out on March
23rd [edited]: After more than a year of work, we are happy to finally
get into the thick of it. The team will be complete in Mayotte on Thursday,
March 24th, around noon! The schedule for the coming days is pretty full,
with the last purchases and technical checks and the loading of the boat.
We will sail away on Saturday, March 26th.
Our chief pilot will communicate updated information on the unloading
and installation. At this time, we hope to be on the air on the evening
of March 29 after a full day spent assembling.
A page displaying in real time the progress of the team has been set up:
http://www.juandenovadx.com/en/track-us-in-real-time
As a reminder, we will use the band plan shared with our friends at
VK0EK. Some windows are very narrow and we will have to live together
in all understanding, without departing from the intended plan, at the
risk of generating confusion and disruption between the two activities.
The band plan is available on both websites. Our different pilots are
available to transit informations to the team (JJ3PRT, ON9CFG, N5FG).
The 10 operators will not have access to their personal emails and
because of a lack of internet connection we will not be watching the
DX-Cluster. No need to transit messages for us through that medium.
http://www.juandenovadx.com/en/pilots
Every day, we will transmit via satellite our logs to our chief pilot
F5UKW who will upload them to ClubLog. However, the =93leader board=94 feat=
ure
will not be activated. No modification or search of the log will be made
by our pilots. If in doubt, work us again.
http://www.juandenovadx.com/en/online-log
The QSL Manager is Flo, F5CWU. He will process OQRS and the direct QSL
requests as well as the cards received via the Bureau. The ClubLog's OQRS
will be active by the end of the operation. We strongly recommend its use.
Later, the logs will be loaded on LoTW and eQSL.
http://www.juandenovadx.com/en/qsl-infos
As part of our expedition on Juan de Nova Island, we are pleased to
announce that a stamp set will be issued by T.A.A.F. QSL cards sent direct
will automatically have the envelope/stamp. We will unveil this commemor-
ative object later.
Everyone connected to the FT4JA project would like to thank all of you =
ho have already contributed in one way or another to the project. It would
not be at this stage without the tremendous mobilization of clubs, foun-
dations and individual donors.
The early donation program will be closed on Friday 25th at 1200z. The
"donors" page of our website will not be updated further after that
specific time. http://www.juandenovadx.com/en/how-to-help-us

REALTIME BAND CONDITIONS WEB SITE <http://www.bandconditions.com>:
The purpose of this experimental Web site is to provide 24-7-365 actual
(REALTIME) band condition information to CW QRPp, QRPe and CW/SSB for
Contesters interested in increasing their scores. It can also be of
benefit to other Radio Amateurs to determine band conditions for Nets
and casual QSO's. This information is NOT based on any software pre-
dictions or any kind of satellite based readings. It is based on a
new Ionospheric sounding method called "HF Ionospheric Interferometry"
which operates very similarly to the PolSAR system used by NASA.

VK0EK HEARD ISLAND DXPEDITION NEWS. The VK0EK team is now active from
Heard Island as of March 23rd. They were heard only on 40 and 30 meters
that night. BEWARE! There were SLIM operations before that date. According
to one of the press releases about their setup on March 23rd:
"The team worked very hard and basically set up a little city which will
be home for almost 3 weeks. With cooperative weather, the team =96 with
superb help from the crew of the Braveheart followed a very well crafted
plan and put up just about everything in one day. They had to transport
all gear 1/2 mile using one ATV and two carts." Look for photographs in
their press releases on the VK0EK Web page. =
The press release on March 24th, reported: The day of landing, the team
was able to get the 30 and 40 m 4-squares erected, and partially completed
a tri-band yagi. We opened with two stations, on 30 and 40 meters. This
morning there was still a lot of work to be done on additional antennas,
stations, and camp facilities. With no propagation on 30 and 40, radio
operations went on hold and all hands went toward further setup. Around
1300 UTC the 30m station was activated again. A few kinks with the IT
system were worked out, and we now have more antennas and positions up.
Only 40 and 30 are currently open (no 80 or 160 yet). We hope to be on
all bands in the next few days. After a few technical difficulties on-
island, DXA is working properly and you can check that you are in the
log at <http://dxa3.org>. The team members are all well, but very tired
from long hours and tough work. We have mostly had good weather, and
appreciate all the thoughts and support from our partners in the ham
radio and scientific community.
Just a reminder that QSOs are now being logged almost instantly on the
DXA Web page at: http://dxa3.org
Several press releases were again sent out and posted on their Web page

March 25th: Todays Work Plan [25-MAR-2016 0400z]
March 25th: 3/25/2016 @ 11:35z Noon update -- We are presently running
on 17, 20, and 30 CW. Within the next hour or two, the number
of stations on the air will be reduced to provide more hands
to get the remaining antennas (especially 80 and 160 m) read=
y.
Our hope is to be on 80 and 160 tonight, but that will depend
on the weather. Presently the weather at Atlas Cove is 6 C
(43 F), wind NE at 6 m/s (12 kts), under mostly cloudy skies.

Status Update =96 3/25/2016 @ 13:16z -- Presently we have
stations running on 17 m SSB, 30 m CW, and the 20 m SSB
station is firing up. IT status on the island is nominal.
This afternoon we raised an 80 m vertical and made progress
on the 160 m vertical, but high winds prevented us from
raising it, even with a few king penguins coming over to
help. Weather: Foggy, 5.5 C (42 F), wind NNE at 6 m/s (12
kts) gusting to 10 m/s (20 kts).

Pristina, Kosovo, March 23rd [edited]: New IARU Society of Kosovo, Z60A

youth team, Z64EEF, University Club and Z68BH, Martti, totally six of
them, will be active during this weekend's WPX-SSB contest. This on-
the-air activity will be used as part of a training process for new
Kosovar hams while they prepare for the forthcoming IARU YOTA gathering

The association, SHRAK, is proud to have a new Yaesu/Acom station with
Force 12 beams hoisted high up the hills at the Technical University of
Pristina where their Z60A HQ is located. The association wishes to express
its gratitude to the ARRL Goodwill Fund, International DX Association
(INDEXA), Force 12, OH-DX-Foundation and to CDXC, the UK DX Foundation,
for their valuable support.

the SHRAK auspices and is now heading back to U.S. after three years of
service and 34.364 QSOs under his belt. =
