CLUB LOG'S CROWD-TAGGING ---> Club Log has announced the "World QSL
Archive" project, which aims "to create the Largest Digital Archive of
scanned paper QSL cards in existence". Nigel, G3TXF has made his collection
of 500,000+ cards available for the project. So far some 100,000 QSLs have
been scanned, and "we need to tag these cards to the sender's callsign and
the corresponding QSOs. We have come up with an original way of doing this
which can also be fun. We call this crowd-tagging". Club Log users who are
willing to help out are invited to visit the tagging page:
https://secure.clublog.org/qslarchive/index.php AND WATCH THE VIDEO (also
available by clicking the HELP button on the bottom LEFT side of the
screen). [TNX 5B4WN/G0WWW]
INDEXA NEWSLETTER ---> The Winter 2016 Special Issue of the International
DX Association's (INDEXA) Newsletter is now available for download at
www.indexa.org/newsletters.html. This issue includes a report on K5P, the
recent DXpedition to Palmyra. [TNX W3OA]
LIGHTHOUSE WEEKEND ---> The 8th South American Lighthouses Weekend will be
held on 19-21 February. Details, including a listing of participating
stations, can be found at www.grupodxbb.com.ar.
VK0EK ---> The container carrying the equipment for the expedition has
arrived in Cape Town, South Africa, and has been put into storage awaiting
arrival of the advance team on 3 March. The Braveheart will arrive two days
later, and the full team will arrive on the 7th. They will sail for Heard
Island on 10 March, weather permitting. The 9th issue (Vol. 2, No. 2) of
the the Heard Island Expedition Newsletter, published on 10 February, can be
downloaded at www.heardisland.org/HD_pages/HD_newsletter_back_issues.html.
VP8SGI ---> Stormy weather conditions caused VP8SGI to go QRT from South
Georgia at 07:41 UTC on 7 February, one day earlier than planned. The
"biggest challenges" the team experienced while on the island were "the
high winds which are destroying our antennas and tents" and "the many out
of turn callers that continually call while we are trying to work others".
The OQRS on Club Log has been enabled; at QRT time the totals were 82,847
QSOs (56518 CW, 20623 SSB, 5706 Data) with 21,734 unique callsigns. For log
inquiries please contact KU9C at vp8sgi_logresearch[@]yahoo.com.
