FR/J, JUAN DE NOVA (Update). The following press release was sent out on
August 14th [edited]: The team is mobilized and carries out many things to
prepare under the best conditions for our operation from the island Juan de
Nova. Until our departure, we will keep you regularly informed through
our official press releases and via our website.
For this new adventure, it was possible to enlarge the team involved
into the Tromelin 2014 operation.
We are happy to welcome Jacques/F6BEE, Yann/F1NGP, Patrick/F2DX and
Pascal/F5PTM. They rejoin Vincent/F4BKV, Flo/F5CWU, Guillaume/F4FET,
Michel/FM5CD and Seb/F5UFX.
We=92ll use the same equipment as the one used in Tromelin, supplemented =
by
various equipment placed at the disposal by sponsors. We are happy to have
at our sides this year Elecraft (transceivers), Spiderbeam (fiber masts),
Messi & Paoloni (coaxial cables), Expert - SPE (amplifiers), DX Engineering
(80m phasing & accessories), MicroHam (interfaces), DX Avenue (6m DX Beam
antenna). These companies allow us to implement all the desired equipment.
We are very grateful for their support.
We do not forget foundations, clubs, associations and individual donators.
Some already accepted our requests and gave us their confidence. However,
we are still far away from the set objective. Within 1 month, the first
payment to settle the boat will have to be carried out. We'd like to make
another call toward the amateur radio community to ask for their assistance
and support. Like we have done with our previous operation, we are engaged
in a meticulous control of the costs by studying each expenditure and by
dismissing all things non essential to a DX Expedition.
The boat that we will use sails in the Indian Ocean throughout the
year, and the crew knows Juan de Nova well and regularly transports
scientists over there. Based on the experiment of our captain, we have
determined dates by taking into consideration the end of the cyclonic
season as well as the best low tide conditions to unload our equipment
at our arrival in the lagoon. We will be on the island from March 31st
to April 14th, 2016. The callsign used during this expedition will be
FT4JA. We recently received the confirmation from the administration.
By then, many points must be solved in order to propose a formidable
experience on the two sides of the pile-up. More than ever we count on
your support.

Web site <http://www.juandenovadx.com>.

LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY FOR THE ILLW. Almost 500 stations (from 44 contries)
are listed for this weekend's International Lighthouse Lightship Weekend
(ILLW) [August 15-16th]. Complete details and list of participants are
available at: http://illw.net
Here is a list of last minute entries sent to OPDX:
7T7T -- Operators 7X2UV, 7X2ME, 7X2ZE, 7X2RO, 7X2SP and 7X2OR will be
active as 7T7T from the Cherchell Lighthouse, Algeria, during
the ILLW. QSL via 7X2ARA.
H81L -- Members of the Radio Club de Panama will activate H81L from
Miraflores Lighthouse (ILLW PA0001 and ARLHS PAN-030), Panama
Canal Pacific side, on Sunday, August 16th, from 15:00 UTC
through 24:00 UTC. Activity will be on the HF bands using SSB
and CW. QSL via HP1RCP.
NW8S -- Members of the Lorain County Wireless Operators (LCWO) will
be active August 14th starting at 0001z for 48 hours. The LCWO
will be operating for the International Lighthouse Lightship
Weekend (ILLW). The three man team will depart Lorain Sailing
Club marina by boat for lighthouse number ILLW US0143 and ARLHS
USA-453 at 2pm Friday afternoon. The team will leave with enough
gear to operate from 80-10m with four stations on the air. The
team plans to operate on all bands and all modes including SSB,
CW, and Digital modes. The team plans to set up antennas Friday
afternoon to be on the air for event start. They will use the
club callsign NW8S and will have operators on the air around
the clock. Local operators can coordinate HF on the simplex
frequency of 146.505 MHz which they will be monitoring during
certain time slots of the event. They also plan to engage in
local simplex on 2M FM, and local analog machines as well. The
team will have enough supplies to last for 3 days at the light-
house and plan to depart Sunday afternoon. This will mark the
fourth time an amateur radio station has ever operated from the
lighthouse and the fourth time in decades that the structure
will be occupied overnight. The team of operators would like
to mention that this event, under certain weather conditions,
could be very hazardous and set up times could be delayed pending
weather. Suggested frequencies posted are subject to change with
QRM and the NAQP:
FM - 146.505 MHz
10M - 28350, 28050 and 28120 kHz
12M - 24940 kHz and 24900 kHz (ILLW during NAQP)
15M - 21350, 21050 and 21070 kHz
17M - 18150 kHz and 18080 kHz (ILLW during NAQP)
20M - 14275, 14050 and 14070 kHz
40M - 7210, 7050 and 7070 kHz
80M - 3810, 3550 and 3580 kHz
Lorain Lighthouse Foundation Inc. http://www.lorainlighthouse.com

CH
from the Scheveningen Lighthouse (NL0025), Netherlands, during
the ILLW. QSL via the Bureau only. QSL Manager is PD2RKG.
VARIOUS CUBAN STATIONS -- Look for 14 Cuban stations to be active during
International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend (ILLW) and 9 of
them for the very first time. Cuba has had a permanent presence
during the ILLW since a few years ago, but without doubts this
year will be the first time with so many lighthouses on the air.

REALTIME BAND CONDITIONS WEB SITE <http://www.bandconditions.com>:
The purpose of this experimental Web site is to provide 24-7-365 actual
(REALTIME) band condition information to CW QRPp, QRPe and CW/SSB for
Contesters interested in increasing their scores. It can also be of
benefit to other Radio Amateurs to determine band conditions for Nets
and casual QSO's. This information is NOT based on any software pre-
dictions or any kind of satellite based readings. It is based on a
new Ionospheric sounding method called "HF Ionospheric Interferometry"
which operates very similarly to the PolSAR system used by NASA.
