7Q - Karl, DK2WV will be active again as 7Q7VW from Malawi from 26
January to 6 February. He plans to be QRV on 160-6 metres. QSL via
DK2WV.
C5 - Everything is on schedule for the C5X DXpedition to the Gambia
starting on 15 January through to the 26th [425DXN 1227]. With two
high-power stations, the team (G3VMW, G3XAQ, G3XTT and M0PCB) will
be QRV on 160-10 metres CW, SSB, RTTY and a little PSK31/63. As
the public beach area is not suitable for VDAs, antennas include
two Spiderbeams on the five HF bands and dipoles at good height
for the lower bands. "We have not specified any TX frequencies by
band", Steve G3VMW says, "and will always try to avoid other
DXpeditions that may be active. However, we will always work split
frequency, listening uo, normally between 1 to 5 kHz". They will
also "make frequent checks on our TX frequency, and if necessary,
move a few kHz lower or higher to clear the QRM". QSL via M0OXO
(preferably through the OQRS at www.m0oxo.com); the logs will be
uploaded daily to Club Log and LoTW. [TNX G3VMW]
EP - Announced frequencies for the EP6T expedition [425DXN 1235] to
Kish Island (AS-166) are:

sailing schedule", the Perseverance DX Group [425DXN 1221]
announced on 3 January. The equipment will be shipped to Auckland
(New Zealand), where the boat will be loaded and sail for Noumea,
(New Caledonia) on 17 September. The team expects to reach the
Chesterfield Islands on 1 October, and to be QRV as TX3X
(requested callsign) on 2-12 October. At the moment the roster
includes seven operators (HA5AO, K5GS, K6GFJ, K6TD, W1SRD, W2LK
and WA6O), and others will be added. Please e-mail
chesterfield[@]pdxg.net if interested in joining the team. The
preliminary budget for this DXpedition is around USD 150,000. The
complete press release and other information (QSLling policy and
management, operating plan, instructions on how to donate) can be
found at http://chesterfield2015.pdxg.net/. The team also has a

425 DX NEWS MAGAZINE ---> The December 2014 issue is now available for
download at www.425dxn.org/monthly/index.html. [TNX IZ3EBA]
CQ DX MARATHON ---> The CQ DX Marathon is a year-long DX hunt, with
participants competing to see who can work the greatest number of countries
("entities") and CQ zones during the calendar year. The 2015 edition
sterted at 00.00 UTC on 1 January and will end at 23.59 UTC on 31 December.
The deadline for log submission for the 2014 DX Marathon is 10 January at
2359Z. Complete details can be found at www.dxmarathon.com.
CQ HALLS OF FAME ---> The CQ DX Hall of Fame (started in 1967) and the CQ
Contest Hall of Fame (started in 1986) recognize those amateurs who have
made major contributions to DXing and contesting, respectively. The CQ
Amateur Radio Hall of Fame (started in 2001) recognizes those who have made
major contributions to amateur radio as a whole, and radio amateurs who
have made major contributions to society at large. Nominations for the
Halls of Fame must be submitted by 1 March; instructions can be found on
http://www.cq-amateur-radio.com/cq_awards/index_cq_awards.html.
DAYTON ANNUAL CONTEST AND TOPBAND DINNERS ---> The 26th Top Band Dinner
will be held on 15 May, followed by the 23rd Contest Dinner on the 16th.
Both the events will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Tickets are
available on http://topbanddinner.com and on http://contestdinner.com
respectively.
FARALLON ISLANDS ---> K6F was active for a very short time on 20 metres SSB
from the Farallon Islands (NA-178) on 6 January [425DXN 1235]. "Sorry it
was such a short operation", K6EWN says on Facebook
(https://www.facebook.com/K6Fislands). "The work we came out to do took
more time than expected, thus shortening our play time". QSL via W6TCP.
MOST WANTED SURVEY ---> The DX Magazine's annual Most Wanted Survey was
conducted in September-October 2014 [425DXN 1218]. The top 10 DXCC Entities
are:
1. P5 North Korea 2. KP1 Navassa Island 3. 3Y Bouvet Island
4. FT5W Crozet Isls 5. VK0 Heard Island 6. BS7H Scarborough Reef
7. VP8 South Sandwich Isls 8. FT5T Tromelin Island 9. KH5K Kingman Reef
10. KH5 Palmyra
Eight out of ten places are occupied by the same DXCC Entities listed for
2013 and 2012, in four cases with just a slight varition in ranking.
Tromelin Island is still listed, because the survey closed on 15 October
and FT4TA became active on the 30th. Marion Island was in 8th place and now
has moved down to the 19th (thanks to the activities by ZS8C, ZS8Z and
ZS8A); Amsterdam and St. Paul was in 4th place and now - not surprisingly,
after FT5ZM - is no longer listed among the 100 Most Wanted Entities. ZS8
and FT5Z have been replaced by Kingman Reef and Palmyra & Jarvis, which
last year were in 12th and 11th place respectively. The 100 Most Wanted
listing can be found on http://www.dxpub.net/MOST-WANTED-SURVEY.html.
Breakdowns are published in the January/February 2015 issue of The DX
Magazine ("I was not able to provide some of the breakdowns as in past
years due to a computer malfunction", N4AA says. "Some of the data was
corrupted and was not retrievable").
QSL GALLERY ---> The large collection of QSL cards on Les Nouvelles DX's
web site has been updated. Fifteen different galleries include 12,441 cards
for the ten Most Wanted DXCC Entities (2004-14), the 61 deleted DXCC
Entities, obsolete prefixes, stations from Maghreb from 1945 to 1962,
Allied Forces stations in Germany (1945-70), special stations commemorating
ITU and IARU, Antarctic bases & TAAF (Terres Australes and Antarctiques
Francaises), the various French DXCC island Entities in the Pacific Ocean,
the Indian Ocean and the Americas (from 1945 to 1970), pre-1945 countries,
French Departments and CONUS, plus a gallery for cards not accepted by
DXCC. Your participation is encouraged: www.LesNouvellesdx.fr. [TNX F6AJA]
VK0EK ---> A comprehensive FAQ page has been addedd to the 2015 Heard
Island DXpedition website (http://vk0ek.org/faq/). Radio operations are
expected to be conducted approximately from 22 November to 8 December.
After the stay on Heard Island, there are plans for the team to visit and
be QRV from Kerguelen for 3-4 days, "assuming permits can be obtained".
YASME EXCELLENCE AWARDS AND GRANTS ---> In 2008 The Yasme Foundation
(www.yasme.org) established the Yasme Excellence Awards, to be awarded to
individuals who, through their own service, creativity, effort and
dedication, have made a significant contribution to amateur radio. The
contribution may be in recognition of technical, operating or
organizational achievement, as all three are necessary for amateur radio to
grow and prosper. The Yasme Excellence Award is in the form of a cash grant
and an individually-engraved crystal globe. The latest recipients,
announced on 5 January, are:

DXpeditions to Pacific entities, including logistics, organization,
equipment, local contacts and planning.
- Dick Flagg, AH6NM, for his years of working with the amateur radio on the
International Space Station (ARISS) and Shuttle Amateur Radio Experiment
(SAREX) groups and in supporting NASA's Radio Jove project, all designed

ages.
- Florin-Cristian Predescu, YO9CNU and Lisa Leenders, PA2LS, for their work
in organizing and promoting Youngsters on the Air (YOTA) and amateur radio
youth activities.

maintain the history of amateur radio.
- the Foundation for Amateur Radio, to be used in its scholarship programme.
