INTERNATIONAL MARCONI DAY ---> Organized by the Cornish Radio Amateur Club,
the International Marconi Day (IMD) is a 24-hour amateur radio event held
annually to celebrate the birth of Guglielmo Marconi (25 April 1874). It is
not a contest, but an opportunity for amateurs around the world to make
contacts with historic Marconi sites using HF communications techniques.
This year's event will be held on 26 April, from 00.00 UTC through 23.59
UTC. Details, including information on the relevant Award Certificates and
the listing of participating stations, can be found at www.gb4imd.org.uk

INTREPID SPIRIT AWARD ---> The Intrepid-DX Group (www.intrepid-dx.com) is
pleased to announce the recipient of the 2nd annual Intrepid Spirit Award,
made in memory of James McLaughlin, WA2EWE/T6AF (killed in Kabul
Afghanistan, on 27 April 2011). This year's award goes to Eric Hall,
K9GY/T6MO, to recognize his "outstanding efforts to activate Afghanistan
during his tour of duty as a US Army reservist, making over 41,000
contacts. We acknowledge Eric's pursuit of operating excellence and his
quest to activate the rare and often dangerous entities". The award will be
presented by David Collingham, K3LP at the Dayton Hamvention DX Dinner on
16 May. [Paul S. Ewing N6PSE, President, The Intrepid-DX Group]

IOTA: NEW GROUPS ---> The key event at IOTA's 50th Anniversary Convention,
to be held from 4 to 6 July, will be the announcement of 10 new IOTA
groups, the first new tranche to be added since year 2000. Two of these 10
will be left for final decision at the Convention on the basis of
evidence-supported representations made in person by delegates. All
additions to the list will conform with IOTA rules amended in a minor way
in the new IOTA Directory to be published in early May. It is envisaged
that much of the discussion between DXpeditioners attending the Convention
will be on their plans to activate these new groups and achieve that NEW
ONE badge. Join this exciting occasion by enrolling for the Convention on
www.rsgbevents.org where the special discount price for attendance has been
extended to 30 April. Decisions taken will be notified on the RSGB IOTA
website after the Convention. [TNX G3KMA]

OC-219 ---> Budi, YF1AR and Adhi, YB3MM have uploaded to Club Log the
YF1AR/8 and YB3MM/8 logs for their recent operation from IOTA group OC-219.
OQRS is available for both of them.

POSTAL RATES (CANADA) ---> Effective 31 March, the new base prices for
standard letter items up to 30g are CAD 1.20 (for destinations in the US)
and CAD 2.50 (international). Stamps are subject to taxes that can vary
from Province to Province. Actual rates can be calculated through the "Find
a Rate" on-line service provided by Canada Post (www.canadapost.ca).

QSL A41OO ---> Effective 1 April 2014, NI5DX is no longer the QSL manager
for A41OO. Cards should be sent to A61BK: Khalid Khamis, P.O. Box 19037,
Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

VK9MT ---> After two full days of setting up equipment, VK9MT became active
from Mellish Reef with five stations at 04.34 UTC on 30 March.
Operations might stop earlier than planned due to severe weather
conditions. It is extremely windy on the island, with occasional heavy
rain. "We will remain on the island for at least 18 more hours", the team
announced at 02.50 UTC (12.50 Mellish Reef time) on 4 April. "The skipper
is watching the weather maps. He'll reassess the situation tomorrow morning
and make a decision".
At 11.30 UTC the team reported that while the generators, the radios and
the amplifiers "are doing well", they "experienced antenna damage and are
reassessing the antenna situation". They are "on a different operating
plan, with frequent breaks because of the weather. You will hear us QRX for
up to an hour, then return". Under the circumstances, requests for specific
geographic/band operation will be almost impossible to fulfill.
Logsearch is up and running on Club Log. Any logging issues should be
directed to the QSL manager (M0URX). He expects to upload the full log to
LoTW as soon as the certificate has been granted.

W1AW WAS ---> Look for ARRL Centennial stations W1AW/1 from Massachusetts
and W1AW/4 from Virginia to be on the air starting at 00.00 UTC on 9 April
until 23.59 UTC on the 15th. In addition, W1AW/KP4 will be active from
Puerto Rico during the same time frame. Complete information on the ARRL
Centennial QSO Party can be found at www.arrl.org/centennial-qso-party.
