J6, ST. LUCIA. By the time you read this, the 5th St. Lucia Buddies in
the Caribbean Suitcase DXpedition should be active until December 9th.
Eight operators will be operating from Chateau Devaux on the NE side of
St. Lucia. This 'Suitcase DXpedition' will operate QRP to 100-watt radio
stations using backpackable Buddipole antennas to make contacts from the
villa, the surrounding mountains, and (of course) from St. Lucia's superb
beaches. The eight operators are Jerry/N9AW, Craig/NM4T, John/W5EXJ,
Joe/K3JDB, Rick/AA4W, Jim/W4QO, Chris/W6HFP, and Budd/W3FF (J68FF). The
operators will sign with their own callsign with 'J6/'. With several
station on the air, operations will be on CW, SSB, and/or Digital Modes
on 160-10 meters from the villa while others make contacts with portable
set-ups from other J6 locations. QSO confirmation and QSLs will be available
via LoTW, Bureau or direct via information on each operator's QRZ.com
page.

JD1, MINAMI TORISHIMA. Take, JG8NQJ, will once again be active as JG8NQJ/JD1
from Marcus Island in the Minami Torishima (OC-073, JCG 10007) group
between December 16th and March 18th (2014). He is usually there to work on
the island's weather station. Activity will be limited to his spare time.
He will be mainly on 17 meters but also on 15/12/10 meters CW. QSL via
JA8CJY, by the Bureau or direct to: Susumu 'Sin' Sanada, 5-17, 5-4,
Shin-Ei, Toyohira, Sapporo 004, Japan. Online log is available at:
         http://dx.qsl.net/cgi-bin/logform.cgi?jd1-jg8nqj

JW, SVALBARD. Alex, PY2SEX/DL1NX, informs OPDX that he expects to be
active from Svalbard (EU-026) during Christmas (December 24-25th) for
only two days, but will be there for 7 days. Activity will be on all
HF bands, as well as 6 meters, using mainly CW, but with some SSB. It
sounds like he will spend a lot of time of the lower bands because now
in Svalbard there is no daylight until the end of January. He believes
that the lower bands will be easier to work and easier to make some DX,
of course if no Aurora comes up. He states, "I'm going there exactly to
try to watch the Aurora,...... so if Aurora happens, no QSOs, I will be
happy anyway. :) " He will try to upload his log to ClubLog and LoTW if
possible, and if there is an InterNet connection. Callsign has not yet
been issued, but could be JW/DL1NX (not JW/PY2SEX because Brazil does
not have an agreement with Norway) or possibly a JW*** callsign. QSL
via DL1NX with SAE and a valid IRC or 2 green stamps.

JW, SVALBARD. Erik, LA2US, will once again be active as JW2US on Bear
Island (EU-027) for a 6 months period between December 2013 through May
2014. He states, "Again, this is not a Dxpedition - I'll be on the air
as time and work schedule permit. Last time I worked 80% SSB - this time
I'll mostly work CW. Contact confirmation will be uploaded to eQSL and
LoTW. QSL via Bureau will be answered after June 2014." Equipment is a
FTDX5000MP into a Carolina Windom 80-10m antenna.

PJ2, CURACAO. Jeff, K8ND, was once again active from Curacao Island
(SA-099, WLOTA LH-0942) to activate the Signal Point Station (PJ2T) as
PJ2/K8ND, this past week/weekend, but will be leaving early Monday morning,
December 2nd. However, he informs OPDX that he will be returning in
January for the CQWW 160M CW Contest with Jim, W8WTS. Jeff also mentioned
to OPDX to look for the following stations (at PJ2T):
  * Marty, PJ2/K2PLF - Will be there until Thursday, December 5th. He has
been on all sort of bands on CW, and is trying to get RTTY set up.
  * Mike, PJ2/VE7ACY (also RW0CN) - Will be there until Tuesday, December
3rd. He has been on all bands, on CW (mostly) and SSB. =

  * A "fresh crew" will operate the ARRL 10 Meter Contest during the weekend
    of December 14-15th. Operators Mark/N5OT, Dave/W6DR, Yin/N9YS, Mike/
NT6X and Geoff/W0CG will mostly arrive on December 11th. While Anders,
    SM4KYN, will be arriving December 15th. =

PJ7, SINT MAARTEN. Tom, AA9A, will once again be active as PJ7AA from
Sint Maarten (NA-105) between February 22nd and March 16th (2014). He
informs OPDX that this is his yearly trip to Simpson Bay, and his activity
will be on 40-10 meters using CW and SSB. Tom mentions, "I may be able
to spend a few hours in the ARRL SSB Contest (March 2-3rd) like last
year. We have family there that week and have time planned with them so
contest time is very limited." Operations will be with 100 watts with
a K3 and Buddipole. QSL via AA9A or LoTW.

The team is happy to announce that Mike Shapiro, WA6O, joined the team.
Mike, originally from Moscow, Russia, has lived in the USA for the past 22
years. First licensed as UA3AIW, he operated mostly from UK3ABF, UK3ACL,
and other club stations in Moscow. In 1998, he received AD6GY and WA6O in
1999. He's a member of Northern California Contest Club, and 40m captain
in N6RO contest team.
Also, joining the Pilot Team as the South American pilot Luciano Sampaio
De Souza, PT7WA. Luciano entered ham radio in 1966, his first call was
PY7VNY, and in 1977 he received PT7WA. He operates CW/SSB and has worked
all but one DXCC entity on CW, the elusive P5. Luciano is also an IOTA
enthusiast having over 975 islands confirmed. He is also the QSL Manager
for several DXpeditions.
Many have asked, including the ARRL and most all major sponsors: "Do you
have landing permission?" They have written approval to land on Mellish Reef
from the Australian government. In July, they contacted the appropriate
agency and asked for permission to use the reef. After about 5 weeks, and
a few rounds of "Questions and Answers", the agency concluded (in writing)
that they do not need a permit.
Signing on as a corporate sponsor is <FoldingAntennas.Com> whose "folding
(hex) beam antenna" will join their antenna lineup. They are also happy to
have both Elecraft and SteppIR as corporate sponsors.
They mention that they began actively raising funds in October. The team
is honored to have received significant recognition from: The Northern
California DX Foundation (NCDXF), Oceania DX Group =96 Australia (ODXG),
International DX Association (INDEXA), The Mediterraneo DX Association
(MDXA), The Carolina DX Association (CDXA), Chiltern DX Association (CDXA),
The German DX Foundation (GDXF), The European DX Foundation (EUDXF), The
Lone Star DX Association (LSDXA), Southwest Ohio DX Association (SODXA),
Northern California DX Club (NCDXC), and other organizations. They also
began receiving assistance from individual DXers. With a total budget of
127,000(USDs), they certainly appreciate the recognition and look forward
to hear from interested DXers, especially those that need Mellish Reef
for an "All Time New One". Donations are welcomed through the Web site
<vk9mt.com> or by check / money order in US dollars to: Mellish Reef 2014
DX-pedition, Gene Spinelli, Treasurer, PO Box 189, Divide, CO, USA 80814.

Z8, SOUTH SUDAN (Press Release from Juba, dated November 25th). Martti,
OH2BH, writes [edited]: "LIFE IS GOOD IN SOUTH SUDAN AFTER CONTEST
WEEKEND -- Now that the CQWW CW contest is over, life is getting back to
normal in this African Republic. The two local hosts, Z81B and Z81D, have
embarked on trips abroad, leaving the Missionary team in charge of wrapping
up their duties before heading home tomorrow Tuesday.
As a thunderstorm hit the area yesterday at dawn, there went their
beverages for the night. The wires were running outside the guarded area
and thus there was no way to repair them last night. Apologies for last
night with no RX antennas and with high atmospheric noise which left many
calling in vain... So, with a fresh mind the team has now repaired the
western beverage and will reappear tonight still with three stations - =

160, 80 and 30M.
The contest effort on four bands resulted in 9000 QSOs. Kindly follow
the individual QRZ.com sites for Z81R and Z81Z for further QSLing instruc-
tions. The plan is to have ClubLog updated before 0000 UTC tonight.
The team is healthy and in high spirits but also looking forward to
returning home for a reunion with their dear ones ahead of a well deserved
Christmas Season.
The team will depart tomorrow at 1500 UTC flying to Nairobi, Kenya,
and back to Europe. Diya, Z81D, is left with an 80M vertical plus a new
FTdx3000 and Acom 1000 to boost his activity on all bands but specifically
on 80M. DX will be plentiful from South Sudan."

ZD8, ASCENSION ISLAND (AF-003). Five members of the Cambridge University
Wireless Society will be active as ZD8UW from Green Mountain on Ascension
Island between December 2-6th. Activity will be on the HF bands, 40-10
meters including the 30/17/12 using CW and SSB. Operators mentioned are: =

Terry/G3VFC, Martin/G3ZAY, Dominic/M0BLF, Robert/M0VFC and Gavin/M1BXF.
They will be operating with Elecraft K3s. They won=92t have internet access
at the QTH, but logs should be uploaded roughly daily to Clublog. The
logs will also go on LoTW once they return home, but they can't apply
for the LoTW certificate in advance as they won't be collecting their
radio licence until they get to Ascension. QSL will be via M0OXO.
For updates, watch: http://www.g6uw.org/dxpeditions/zd8uw

ZS7, ANTARCTICA. Operators Adam/ZS7V and Philip/ZS7PHM are now at the
