10th AAW IN FEBRUARY. Look for the 10th Antarctic Activity Week (AAW) to
take place between February 18-24th (2013). This event is promoted by
Worldwide Antarctic Program (WAP) <http://www.waponline.it> each year
to improve the world-wide attention about the Antarctic Continent and its
related matters, with the aim of staying close to the researchers and
personnel who are spending their time away from home and families, studying
the Antarctic life and its secrets in the so many remote scientific
stations in this icy continent. The WAP is also thankful for what the
Nations and Research Foundations are doing to protect this still uncontam-
inated corner of the planet and to share a message of peace among the
world. The AAW is a unique event world-wide where Hams (in any corners
of the world) sign up and help promote the special attention given to
the Antarctica. This worldwide event is open to all radio amateurs wishing
to join them using a special callsign which help promote the Antarctica.
All SES with a WAP reference number will qualify for WAP ASEA (Antarctic
Special events Award). The WAP Ref. number for any special callsign
requested/issued for this occurrence can be provided upon request by
sending an E-mail to I1HYW (QRZ.com). The list of participants is still
open and is available at: http://www.waponline.it/Default.aspx?tabid=3D113

C6, BAHAMAS. Rick, K6VVA, informs OPDX readers: "I am now scheduled to
return to the Bahamas again. This time QRV as C6AVA on North Bimini
Island IOTA NA-048 from 11 to 14 January (2013). As always, this will
be a primarily CW activation. I may also be QRV in the NAQP CW Contest.
IOTA NA-048 is still needed by 86.1% of ASIA/JA IOTA Claimants, 70.2%
in EU and more than 54.3% in NA. Special efforts will be made for ASIA/JA
as I did from NA-054 due to the polar path route. Hopefully propagation
will cooperate.
An important note to Italian IOTA Chasers: If I send your callsign
correctly the first time, please do NOT repeat your callsign 2 or 3 times
as this unnecessarily wastes time. Stations who repeatedly call out-of-turn
(Pileup "Bullies") will be confronted and run the risk of NOT getting into
my log. If you cannot copy me, then please do NOT call.
More Info at: http://www.k6vva.com/iota/na048 *** QSL ONLY Via N6AWD."
