5V, TOGO (Update). Wim, ON4CIT, will be active as 5V7TH from Togo (Grid
Square JJ06rf) between October 26th and November 5th. Activity will be
on 40-6 meters, including the 30/17/12 meter bands, using CW, SSB and
RTTY. He will focus on JAs and use an Icom IC-7000 into a 6-band Broad-
band hexbeam and verticals for 30/40m. Suggested frequencies are:
CW - 10112, 14022, 18072, 21022, 24892 and 28025 kHz
SSB - 7070, 14190, 18132, 21292, 24972 and 28492 kHz
RTTY - 7042, 10142, 14082, 18102, 21080, 24922 and 28090 kHz
6m - 50.090/CW, 50.120/SSB and 50.200/RTTY

5X, UGANDA (Update to OPDX.1076). Nick, G3RWF/5X1NH, announced this past
week he is "considering how best to get 160 on the air as it is the only
band I have not worked and reckon there must be un-met need!" He works
at a community university, so this is not a DXpedition but a solo operation
with plenty of time to get on the air. He is looking for help/advice in
erecting a simple antenna for 160m. Nick states, "I have access to roach
poles (30 footers) and can get max height of about 50 feet. No high trees
locally and insufficient room for beverage antennas. Contemplating a 50 ft
vertical with capacity top loading and some induction at the feed point.
I will get grounding as good as possible within local constraints (small
site, vehicles near the house etc). What do you think? Grateful for
advice on antennas. I would only work CW - lots of experience on HF (110k
QSOs from 5X on the other bands) but novice on 160 DX - advice (polite)

6V, SENEGAL. Enrico, IK2FIL, will once again be active as 6V7X from Le
Calao between September 24th and October 4th. His activity will include
the CQWW DX RTTY Contest (September 29-30th) as a Single-Op/Single-Band
(??)/Low-Power entry. Operations will be on 80-10 meters using Elecraft
K3 + KAT3 + KXV3 + KFL3A-400. Outside of the contest, Enrico will be on

7P8, LESOTHO (Update to OPDX.1051). Donovan, ZS2DL, has finalized his
team of operators and plans to arrive in Lesotho on November 21st, and
leave on December 4th. Operations will possibly take place between November
23rd and December 3rd. Naturally this means they will be an entry in the
CQWW DX CW Contest (November 24-25th). The callsign will 7P8D. Operators
mentioned are made up of three teams:
South Africans - Donovan/ZS2DL (CW), Mitch/ZS2DK (SSB/RTTY) and
Roger/ZS6RJ (CW/RTTY)
Germans - Jo/DJ3CQ (CW), Chris/DL2MDU (CW) and Emil/DL8JJ (CW)
N. Americans - Frosty/K5LBU (SSB,RTTY), Keith/VE7MID (CW) and
Neil/VA7DX (CW)
Activity will be on 160-10 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY with a minimum
of three stations (possibly 5 stations) on the air 24/7. The suggested

8P, BARBADOS. Dean, 8P6SH, will be active as 8P2K during the CQWW DX SSB
Contest (October 27-28th) as a Single-Op/Single-Band (10m) entry. QSL

9J, ZAMBIA. Shinichi, JA7SGV, is now active as 9J2JA from Zambia. His
length of stay is unknown. Activity has been on the HF bands (30/20/17/15
meters) using CW. QSL via his home callsign.
AH0, MARIANA ISLANDS (Update). Kuroi, JH0MGJ/AL5A, will be active as
AL5A/AH0 from Saipan Island (OC-086) between September 7-9th. He informs
OPDX that he will stay at the rental shack on Saipan and will operate
for just several (ten) hours on 40-10 meters using a 1 kw on SSB or CW.
Also, he states that he will bring his FT-817 with him and be active as
AL5A/AH0/QRP several times. Kuroi states that he will be looking "for

C6, BAHAMAS. Operators George, KQ8Z/GM0IIO, will be active as C6AZZ
from Grand Bahama Island (NA-080, WLOTA 0527, WW Loc. FL06UO) between
October 24-31st. Activity will focus on 6 meters (CW, SSB, FM) if there
are any band openings, otherwise on 80-10 meters, mainly CW with some
SSB using his Icom 756Pro3. His activity will also include the CQWW
DX SSB Contest (October 27-28th) as a Single-Op/Single-Band (20m)/Low-
Power entry. George will use a 80m OCFD antenna at 40 feet. The 20m
antenna will be a full sized 20m delta loop right on the beach vertically

CR3/CT9, MADEIRA ISLANDS. German operators Helge/DG3FAW, Knut/DJ6KS
and Matthias/DJ8OG will be active as CT9/homecall from AF-014 between
September 4-11th. Look for Matthias/DJ8OG to be active as CR3L during
the Worked All Europe DX (WAE) Contest (September 8-9th) as a Single-

DXCC NEWS. Bill Moore, NC1L, ARRL Awards Branch Manager, reports that
the following operation is approved for DXCC credit:
XU1A – Cambodia; 1998 Operation
Bill states, "After reviewing new information, we have concluded that
the XU1A documentation and operation are acceptable and sufficient and
that QSLs will be accepted for DXCC. If you have had QSLs rejected please
send an E-mail to <bmoore@arrl.org> to be placed on the list for update.
(If you remember the submission in which you included the QSL please note
this to expedite the search for the rejected QSO)."
DX MAGAZINE'S MOST WANTED SURVEY. Carl, N4AA, editor of "QRZ DX" and
"The DX Magazine", reports to DXers: "Effective immediately the 2012
Most Wanted Survey form is available on the DX Publishing web site.

Several prefixes are in BOLD type. These are ones which may cause
confusion due to their similarity, i.e. 3D2, VK9, VK0, etc. Please use
care when marking these to be sure the correct one is counted.
There are a few shown in RED. These indicate either an addition to the
list from last year or a change in the prefix (ZK2 is now E6).
There is a 'block' at the bottom of the form for you to send along any
comments, or to include any country that you need which is not on the

E5, NORTH COOK ISLANDS. Andy/AB7FS (E51AND) and his XYL Kathy are still
(as they call it) stranded on Palmerston Atoll (OC-124), North Cook
Islands, possibly until September 16th or 17th. It does not sound like
the couple is having a good time there. Andy states, "I have minimal
equipment with me and there are no stores or supplies on island so it is
'make do with what we have!'." He is operating under a solar charged
battery power for his FT857D into a Snowdonia Radio Co. SRCX80 5m vertical,
and for CW he is using a hand key and paper logging in a school exercise
book. He states, "Life on island is COMPLETELY different from anything
one might experience in the U.S. or Europe and operating is interrupted
by things like the battery being used to pump water, the social demands
of my host family, a visit from the island secretary . . . ." To read

E5, SOUTH COOK ISLANDS. Rudi, ZL2KBR, will be active as E51KBR from
Rarotonga Island (OC-013) between November 12-19th. Activity will be

HG1912, HUNGARY. Members of the Puskas Tivadar Radio Aamateur Club (HA5KHC)
will be active as HG1912PTTT from Budapest between now and September 30th.
Activity is to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the "Puskas Tivadar"
Telecommunications Technical High School. Operations will be on all HF

NH8, SWAINS ISLANDS. Two members of the 19 international NH8S DXpedition
team, Joe/W8GEX and Dietmer/DL3DXX, arrived on American Samoa late Thursday
evening to coordinate last minute details. The reminder of the team will
arrive in Pago Pago late Monday evening, September 3rd. They anticipate
leaving for Swains Island on Tuesday morning for the 24 hour boat trip.
Since the equipment is already there, they should be able to get right
to work on erecting the antennas and setting up stations. They are anxious
to get on the air and will be active as soon as possible.
Joe, W8GEX, mentions in his "60m Newsletter" this week that [edited]
"This tent/generator operation will start around September 6th, and last
until September 18th. I'll be on channel 5 when I am on, unless I have
QRN and then I'll move the channel 4. It will take a few days after the
operation has started before I think about getting on 60 meters. San, K5YY,
will be my pilot station, and he will keep you posted on my activities.
I plan to look for Europe around 0400z during their sunrise. I think the
best time for NA should be between 0900z to 1100z. If you don't hear me,
feel free to call me as we may just be monitoring the channel. Keep in
mind I have my regular three hour shift to perform on the other bands,
and I'll work you guys in between. I'll try to have Jerry, WB9Z, who's a
great op and knows the 60m band, help me out. Please give your call many
times in order for us to get your call. I will have a beverage so that
will be helpful on receive. I am using a vertical I have made, and our
propagation charts says we should be able to work NA East coast at S3
levels. Let's hope this is the case to get some W1s and W2s in the log."

LAST MINUTE NH8S UPDATE BEFORE GOING TO PRINT:
"SAFE LANDING ON SWAINS ISLAND
SWAINS ISLAND 2012 NH8S DX-PEDITION
The weather was absolutely gorgeous on Swains Island for off loading
the cargo and David's crew. They arrived on Saturday afternoon, August 25,
2012, and had enough tide for the landing craft to off load most of the
fuel, supplies, and David and his crew. They immediately set up a couple
of tents at the beach for shading while awaiting supplies from the ship.
Then Sunday morning at high tide they off loaded the rest of the cargo.
The MV. Sili departed Swains Sunday @ Noon, and arrived Pago Pago early
Monday morning August 27, 2012.
Hands down, the star of the show was this old landing craft that was
specially repaired for this operation. It was able to take all the cargo
fuel and passengers all the way to the beach with about 5 trips. David
and his crew are currently clearing areas to construct stations, sleeping
quarters and restroom facilities. Since the arrival of Team Leader Joe
Pater And Dietmar Kasper, David has been working with Joe on specific
station Locations on the island.
Everything is in place and the SWAINS ISLAND 2012 NH8S DXPEDITION is
shaping up. We are finalizing our food supplies and await the arrival
of the rest Of the Team set for Monday night, September 3, 2012. Then
the Team and cooks will depart for Swains by noon September 4, 2012. The
only other thing that will make this more exciting is if the Team members
will bring with them all their “McGaiver Tricksö for 2 week survival on
a remote island like Swains Island. Oh I hope everyone likes fish because
the fish is really biting, and the reef is full of lobsters.

PACIFIC TOUR (5W, KH8 and Possibly ZK3). Opertaors John/N7CQQ and Ron/N6XT
are on an exploratory trip to American Samoa (KH8), Western Samoa (5W0)
and possibly Tokelau (ZK3). They depart the West Coast USA on Thursday,
August 30th, for Pago Pago, American Samoa, via Honolulu, Hawaii. John and
Ron will be in American Samoa to see the Swains expedition group off from
American Samoa. During the 30 day trip to the Samoa area, John and Ron
hope to get permission to visit Tokelau for two weeks. Their equipment
will be shipped to Samoa via US Postal Service to Pago Pago, American
Samoa. They will take a flight from American Samoa to Apia, Western
Samoa. They hope to find the Tokelau Visitors center open on Saturday
where they hope to get permission to visit Tokelau. They will return to
American Samoa to get their gear, see the Swains guys off and take a
ferry either to Tokelau or back to Western Samoa. If all else fails,
they will set up shop in Western Samoa to operate and continue to try
to get permission to visit Tokelau. Western Samoa has a few islands
that they might visit during their stay. John hopes to get his old 5W0QQ
callsign and Ron will get his special 5W callsign. They also might operate
from American Samoa during late September while they await their flight
home. John and Ron will both be using ICOM IC 7000 transceivers with
SteppIR BIG Vertical antennas. They will construct wire antennas for 80
and possibly 160 meters. They might have access to an amplifier on
Western Samoa, as John, N7CQQ, is taking two 3-500z tubes to Atsuo
Sakuma, 5W1SA, the only Ham at Western Samoa. Support for this mini
expedition was received from SteppIR Antennas, ICOM America, The DX
Store, and Radio World of Boulder City, Nevada. QSL to Ron and John

PC12, NETHERLANDS (Special Event). Fred, PA0FAW, will be operating PC12WSF
between September 3-30th. Activity will take place during the World Statues
Festival in Arnhem. Operations will be on CW, SSB and PSK etc. Fred has

QSL ROUTE CHANGE. Khalid, A61BK, has decided to manage his own cards.
As of August 20th, all cards for Khalid should now go direct to him at
his new QRZ.com address. Buzz, NI5DX, will no longer be confirming any
cards for A61BK. However, he will answer any A61BK cards that arrive in
the next Bureau shipment to NI5DX. After this shipment, no A61BK cards
will be confirmed via the Bureau either.

T6, AFGHANISTAN. Martin, DL3ASM, is now active as T6SM from ISAF Camp
Marmal, Mazari Sharif, until the end of November. Activity has been on
20/17/15/10 meters using CW (preferred) and SSB. He is operating with an
Icom IC7000 with 75 watts into a 7m Vertical antenna. QSL via his home

TC, TURKEY (LH Op!). Members of the "TC Special Wireless Activity Team"
(TCSWAT) and the "Giresun Radio Amateurs and Nature Sports Club" (GITRAD)
continued to activate lighthouses in Turkey this past weekend for their
"Western Blacksea Lighthouses On The Air (WEBLOTA) Award". The next and
last operations for this award will take place in September. In mid-
September look for TC6GLH from Sinop Gerze Lighthouse and the last
activation will be TC2ZLH from Zonguldak Lighthouse at the end of Sep-

from Costa de Pajaros, located in the North West Pacific Coast from
Costa Rica, during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 27-28th) as a Multi-2

TT8, CHAD (Update to OPDX.1072). Members of the "Italian Dxpedition Team"
will be active as TT8TT from N'Djamena between October 3-16th. Activity
will be on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY. Suggested frequencies are
listed in OPDX.1072. Operators mentioned are Alfeo/I1HJT, Silvano/I2YSB,
Vinicio/IK2CIO, Angelo/IK2CKR, Marcello/IK2DIA and Stefano/IK2HKT. The
pilot station is Art/IK7JWY. The team will pay particular attention to
Japan and the West Coast, as Chad is 40th and 23rd, respectively in the
world ranking of the most wanted. QSL direct via I2YSB. QSL by the Bureau
via IK2CIO. Logs will be posted to LoTW within six months. A TT8TT survey

V7, MARSHALL ISLANDS. Rick, WH0AI (ex-T32AI), is currently active from
Kwajalein Island (OC-028) from the Kwajalein Amateur Radio Club station
and using the club callsign V73AX. Activity has been on 20/15/10 meters
at various times using CW and SSB. Rob, KD7H, had a CW QSO with him, and
was told by Rick to QSL via his WH0AI QRZ.com address, but PLEASE use
"green stamps" to help with return postage instead of IRCs. Apparently,
his wife is having a problem exchanging IRCs for the return postage. Rick
will be on Kwajalein for a while working and is trying to obtain a "V73"
callsign (he has requested V73AI) which he hopes to have within several
days. Also, Rick plans to be active during the upcoming contest season.
ZA, ALBANIA. Operators Franta/OK1HH and Bob/OK2BOB will be active as
ZA/homecall between September 12-20th. Activity will be on 160-6 meters
using CW and SSB. QSL via their home callsigns.
ZD9, TRISTAN DA CUNHA (Update). Operators Martin/G3ZAY and Robert/M0VFC
will be active as ZD9UW from Tristan da Cunha possibly on September 27th
for 7 days. They will leave Cape Town on September 20th, for a seven day
trip (depending on the wx) aboard the "Baltic Trader". Activity is not
expected to be on all bands because of the time they have. Logs will be
uploaded to ClubLog and LoTW shortly after their operation (or during,
if an Internet connection is available). QSL cards will be handled by an
OQRS, direct to M0VFC, or via E-mail for Bureau requests. For more details
