3D2C, CONWAY REEF (Press Release). Paul, N6PSE, sent out the following
on August 7th: "After many months of careful planning, we are pleased to
announce that our preparations for a large multi-national Dxpedition to
Conway Reef are going according to plan.
Conway Reef is located in the South Pacific Ocean and is #35 on Club-
Log's most wanted DXCC list.
The Team is meeting in Lami Bay, Suva and departing by ship to Conway
Reef on September 24th. The Team expects to arrive at Conway Reef and
become active on September 26th. We will complete our Dxpedition on
October 5th, 2012.
The main goals of this DXpedition are to work every amateur radio
operator who needs Conway Reef for a new DXCC country. In addition, we
will be active on all bands from 1.8 MHz to 144 MHz, including the 5 MHz
and 50 MHz bands.
We will be active on CW, SSB and RTTY. Special attention will be made
to work far away stations such as Europe and Africa during those periods
when propagation permits. The propagation window for EU and Africa is
very brief at times and signals may be weak, so we ask everyone in the
honored HAM SPIRIT to stand by when asked so that we may fulfill this
need. Our destination will have a wide range of options and possibilities.
We plan to upload our logs on a daily basis to our on-line log. We will
upload to LOTW approximately six months following the DXpedition.
Our team consists of these Operators: Hrane-YT1AD-Leader, Aleksej-UA4HOX-
Co-Leader-Operations, Paul-N6PSE-Co-Leader-PR & Fundraising, David-WD5COV,
Vasily-RW4NW, David-AH6HY, Alan-K6SRZ-Team Physician, Alan-AD6E, Sergej-
RZ3FW, Craig-K9CT, Stan-LZ1GC, George-N6NKT, Peter-PY5CC, Mike-K6MKF,
Jim-K9JM, Miguel-PY3MM and Luciano-PY5KD.
We wish everyone good propagation and we hope that you enjoy working the =
3D2C Team.
 =

At this time, we are seeking additional Club and Individual Sponsors to
help us defray the costs of carrying out this DXpedition. Our official
website is: http://www.yt1ad.info/3d2c/index.html

5R8FL QSL ROUTE CHANGE. Phil, G3SWH , reports: "It is with great regret
that I have to announce that Andreas, 5R8FL, has terminated my QSL
managership of his station with effect from the end of July 2012. I have
his logs up to the end of June 2012 and am awaiting the log for July. I
will be uploading the latest logs to LoTW and to the search facility on
my web site in the next few weeks. I have plenty of proper QSL cards
left. I have been given no reason for the termination and have no infor-
mation as to whether Andreas has made any alternative arrangements for
  confirming his future QSOs."

CY9M LOTW NOTICE. The following note is on M0URX's Web page at:
        http://m0urx.com/3-M0URX/369-cy9m-lotw-upload.html
"The CY9M log has been uploaded to Logbook of The World, LoTW. It has
become clear that one of the laptops used for logging was + one hour
out of UTC. If you are missing a match on LoTW please reload your QSO
adding ONE HOUR to your log time."

QSL H44USMC via H44RK. Special event station to commemorate 70th anni-
versary of the U.S. Marines landings on Guadalcanal.

HK0NA LoTW. Bob, N2OO, reports that he has begun to upload QSOs to
LoTW. However, he mentions that for some reason some 15,000 QSOs
are missing from the HK0NA LoTW upload. He states, "Will work it
all out with ARRL next week. PLEASE don't deluge me with emails!
  ;-) I'm on it."

UT1FG/MM QSL UPDATE. OPDX has been informed with the following updated
info concerning the status of QSL requests for contacts made by UT1FG/MM
after April, 2012: "Yuri, UT1FG, has been on a well deserved vacation
in Russia following his 6 month long voyage as Captain of the M/V
Barnacle. Logs for the April-May 2012 timeframe have just now become
available to his QSL Manager Eugene, UX0FY. Yuri was only home for a
few days, but he managed to write many QSL cards which will be returned
by mail (if postage was provided), or by the Bureau (if no postage was
enclosed). Eugene will have the bureau cards out in September and
said that the Ukraine Bureau is working very well. Direct cards are
going out daily. Eugene has all of Yuri's logs now and can answer all
requests. Eugene responds to all requests (with sufficient postage) on
a direct basis. He encloses an insert that requests that the recipient
send an E-mail to him when they receive their card(s). This insures
that the process is complete. If no E-mail is received then the card
is possibly lost or stolen in the mail. So, let him know if you received
your UT1FG/MM cards that you requested or not. If you did not receive
the cards, he will work something out with you to get them. This goes
for the 6 meter as well as the satellite contacts.

as V47JA from his Calypso Bay, St. Kitts, W.I., hillside vacation home
(CQZ 8, IOTA NA-104, Grid FK87pg) between October 12th and November 1st.
Activity will be on 160-6 meters, including 60m and using SSB. His activity
will also include CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 27-28th) as a Single-Op/
All-Band entry. Equipment will be: Kenwood TS-590S and a SB200 Amplifier
and a 80-10m Multiband Dipole and S9 Vertical (18' and 31'); 6m will be
a 3 element yagi. His XYL Cathy, W5HAM, will occasionally operate as =

V47HAM. ALL QSLs go to his home callsign W5JON. Also via LoTW.

VK9C, COCOS (KEELING) ISLAND. A surprise activation last week by Allen,
VK3BF, from here as VK3BF/VK9C will end very quickly (possibly on August
12th. Activity seems to be mainly on 20 meters SSB. QSL via VK3BF.

VK9X, CHRISTMAS ISLANDS. Pekka, OH2YY, reports, "Last November a re-
scheduling of flights, caused by bad weather, cut my operation at
Christmas Island very short. I have now decided to return to Christmas
and re-activate VK9XM in early October this year. The schedule for the
operation is from Oct. 6th (ca. 12Z) to Oct. 12th (ca. 24Z). I will be
active on frequencies 7-28 MHz. I will QSL 100% either direct or via
SRAL QSL bureau. Direct QSL's to my home address: Pekka Ahlqvist OH2YY,
Vapaalanpolku 8B, 01650 Vantaa, Finland."

VP9, BERMUDA (NA-005). Paul, W4/VP9KF (G4BKI),will once again be active as
VP9KF from Baileys Bay, Hamilton Parish, between November 5-19th. Activity
will only be CW on all bands and the JA greyline. QSL via W4/VP9KF:
Paul Evans, 6809 River Road, Tampa, FL 33615. Please, DO NOT send to
the VP9 bureau. Visit his Web page for more information, including logs,
propagation and operating times, at: http://vp9kf.com

VQ9, CHAGOS ISLANDS. Jim, VQ9JC/ND9M, informs OPDX, "I'm back on Diego
Garcia until mid November. The ham shack was closed for maintenance
during my absence from the island, and I don't know yet when it will be
re-opened. Hopefully, the closure is only temporary. In the meantime, I'm
operating from two different locations on the island, both of which are
in recreational parks. All of my operating is currently Field Day style
in that I bring all my gear (rig, power supply, antennas, power and coax
cables, keyer, laptop, and tools - about 40 pounds) with me in two back-
packs. (I wear one and hand carry the other.) Being a tropical island,
there's no shortage of trees, but I can only get the antenna up about 25
feet because of the density of the palms. I get the supporting lines into
the trees using fishing line and lead weights and throwing them up by
hand. (Think David and Goliath.) I'd be able to get the antennas up higher
if I could use a slingshot or bow and arrow, but those are considered
weapons here and are illegal under BIOT law. Since my two operating spots
are outside in public areas, I have to set up the station and then break
it down each day, which further limits my operating time to 1230-1615z on
most days typically. My HF rig is an FT-897D (barefoot at 100W) and single-
band dipoles. Most of my operating will be on CW, but I'll do SSB on
occasion. I don't have a Rigblaster with me yet, so digital modes aren't
available for the time being. My CW operating is normally with a keyer,
but I have a retired shipboard hand key with me at all times and can easily
switch to manual keying for SKCC contacts. I also operate through the LEO
satellites with an FT-857 (TX) and FT-817 (RX) for duplex comms. The
antenna is a 5-element Elk log periodic. All of my HF operating is from
the island, so contacts are valid for DXCC and other awards that require
that QSOs be made between land-based stations. My satellite operating is
from both the island as well as the ship I work on. All QSOs that I make
from the ship will be clearly identified as '/MM' or 'maritime mobile',
and the QSLs will indicate that as well. QSL via ND9M."

VQ9, CHAGOS ISLANDS. Chuck, W4XP, will be active as VQ9XP from the club
station VQ9X from Diego Garcia Atoll (AF-006, WLOTA 1645, LOC MI62) between
now and August 25th. His activity will be focused on 6 meters, but he will
also be on the HF bands. QSL direct via W4XP and LoTW.

VU7, LAKSHADWEEP ISLAND (Reminder)[IOTA/Lighthouse/WFF Op]. Remember to
look for members of the Bangalore Amateur Radio Club (VU2ARC) and a small
group of amateur radio volunteers to be active as VU7M from Minicoy Island
(AS-106, WFF VU-103, ARLHS LAK009 and also IND017 [to be deleted!!])
between August 13-22nd. Details on QRZ.com state that they will be "setting
up humble HF station" and the QSL route is "DIRECT to the QSL Manager
VU2JHM or through the Bureau". For more details (plently of URLs to look
at) and updates, watch QRZ.com under VU7M.

W4DXCC DX CONVENTION. Mark your activities calendar for September 28-29th,
for the Annual W4DXCC DX Convention held in Pigeon Forge, TN, at the
Mainstay Conference Center. Ten Tec also sponsors a outdoor Hamfest at
their plant in Sevierville, TN, on the same weekend. These two events
are just a couple of miles apart. The Hamfest is during the morning/
afternoon and the W4DXCC Convention is during the evening hours. For
additional information about the W4DXCC DX CONVENTION, visit their
Web site at: http://www.w4dxcc.com

W9DXCC DX CONVENTION (September 14-15th). Jim, N7US, reports: "This is a
reminder of the 60th annual W9DXCC DX Convention which is a little more
than a month away. We always have a great time. The presentations are
interesting and focused on DXing. The prize drawings are fun. Several
vendors and organizations will be exhibitors, and you can operate an
FT DX 5000 which Yaesu has furnished for special event station W9D.
We'll have QSL card checking for CQ and ARRL awards, including 160M
and deleted countries. The CW copying contest will let you compete against
the best, especially if our banquet speaker, Fred Laun, K3ZO, participates.
The optional Friday afternoon class will get aspiring DXers up to speed
(well, maybe not 35 wpm) in four hours. Our master of ceremonies, Jim
O'Connell, W9MU, will keep us on track and entertained.
The hotel is conveniently located near major highways and O'Hare, so the
convention is easy to get to locally or from anywhere else. But the best
part of the convention is seeing old friends and making new ones. The
Friday and Saturday night hospitality suites are a good opportunity to do
that.
By registering now instead of the last minute or at the door, you save
a few bucks and you enable us to plan for the right number of attendees.
Registering is easy on our website, http://www.w9dxcc.com , and you can
pay using PayPal for your convenience. Everyone attending the convention
is expected to register, as the registration fees cover the costs of the
convention, so please do the right thing and register.
You may receive an individual mailing as well as one or more from your
reflectors, so sorry for any dupes. Please pass on the word to your local
club and friends. We look forward to seeing you at W9DXCC....
73, Jim N7US"

ZL9, CAMPBELL ISLAND (Update/Press Release). Ed, VK2ARE, Australian
Publicity Officer for the ZL9HR, sent out the following press release
[edited]: "The team at the Hellenic Amateur Radio Association of Australia
have all permissions including the landing permit to Campbell Island
(OC-037) and are in the process of building out three shipping containers
in Sydney, Australia, to be used for transport of all equipment and
supplies required. The DX'Pedition will be on Campbell Island between
the 28th of November and the 9th of December.
An international team of operators has been assembled for this event
on the sub-Antartic Campbell Island which is located 650 km or 400 miles
south of New Zealand in the Southern Ocean. This is the biggest DX'Pedition
by an Australian club in 25 years and the promises to be the most sought
after DX'Pedition in 2012 overall. The complete crew of 10 operators is
as follows: Tommy/VK2IR, John/VK3YP, Les/W2LK, Gene/K5GS, Don/VE7DS,
Istvan/HA5AO, John/9M6XRO, David/K3EL, Jacky/ZL3CW and Tom/KE4KY.
Keen DX-ers who may be looking to get ZL9 on a particular band and mode
to move towards a DXCC or other award, should go to the survey on the
website at ZL9HR.com and vote for which bands and modes they would like
to hear ZL9HR operating on!
When people think of DX'Peditions, they think of operators sitting under
palm trees on exotic islands with the world of amateur radio enthusiasts
trying to talk to them. While this is where every DX'Pedition tries to get
to, there is a LOT of work that has to happen before this is possible!
Months or even years before, the event planning starts and permits are
requested, equipment assembled and transport both of equipment and
operators arranged. Accommodation organized and all red-tape worked
through. All of this requires a lot of work from the organizers and also
requires finance in the form of contributions from those taking part in
the event and from sponsors. Without sponsors no DX'Pedition can take
place and the ZL9HR DX'Pedition is no exception.
This DX'Pedition is rightly being billed as one of the most important
DXPeditions in 2012 and the HARAOA is very happy to announce that many
of the sponsors that supported earlier DXPeditions are helping again with
ZL9HR. There will be additional sponsors 'signing up' over the next few
weeks, but we would like to thank those who have already committed to
support the DX'Pedition. These are as follows (in alphabetical order);
Commercial sponsors: RF Solutions and Spiderbeam

Club & Organisations: British Colombia & Northwest Washington =96 ORCA
DX & Contest club, Clipperton DX Club, Danish DX Group, European DX
Foundation, German DX Foundation, Lone Star DX Association, Long Island
DX Association, Lynx DX Club, Mediterraneo DX Club, Northern California
DX Club, Northern Illinois DX Association, Oklahoma DX Association,
Pacific DXers, West Tennessee DX Association and 599 DX Association.

There are also currently 33 individuals who are sponsoring the event.

In addition to these sponsorships, the HARAOA ZL9HR DX'Pedition is
delighted to have been granted an award from the prestigious ARRL Colvin
foundation. The Colvin Award is conferred in the form of grants in support
of Amateur Radio projects that promote international goodwill in the field
of DX and the HARAOA are honoured to have received this award.
Please keep monitoring the DX'Pedition's website - ZL9HR.com for all
updates as the preparations keep progressing."
