A7/G0MKT HEADING HOME. OPDX received the following report (edited) from
Bill, NM7H, on Saturday, June 7th, as he prepares to head home to Nebraska:
"Hello, I am Bill Flint, A7/G0MKT, and in the states my call is NM7H. I
packed up my gear today and will be leaving Qatar soon. I was active from
around late April till 6 June 08. I made about 500 contacts total while
here, I picked up 8 or 9 new countries that I had not gotten on my previous
trips out here. I think my country count just for this trip as about 60-70
(not sure).
Propagation was generally poor for me, during the local day CW activity
was sparse much of the time. I worked from about 4pm to midnight local
(1300Z-2100Z). After work 20m was seldom open for me, so I would get on
30m or 40m. Conditions were tough much of the time on 30m and 40m due
to QRN.
My gear: Yaesu FT-857D and a High Sierra HX-900 (older model 40-6m
screwdriver antenna). The antenna was on a mag mount on the A/C unit that
sticks out of the metal building I lived in. I had two ground leads, one
short lead with an alligator clip to the metal building, and one 5m lead
that I let hang down to the ground.
I will be sending out QSLs in a few weeks to all QSOs that were not part
of the WPX contest, the QSLs will go via the bureau. I will also respond
to all QSL requests that I receive direct. For the WPX contest contacts,
I will send out QSLs for the countries I need confirmed. I think my total
DXCC number from Qatar is 125 and I need about 30 more countries confirmed
so I can apply for DXCC from Qatar.
I sent my log to LoTW and have already started getting confirmations
there. The website for eQSL does not work from here for some reason, it
always times out. So when I get home I will load my log to eQSL.
This was probably my last trip to Qatar....
  73, Bill (A7/G0MKT, NM7H, YI9WF, G0MKT)"

ADDED NOTE: It is suggested to visit Bill's "A7/G0MKT Web Page" which
has his complete A7 story with pictures at:
            http://members.cox.net/nm7h/index.htm

BA4, CHINA. Jack, WB8FSV, informs OPDX that he will be vacationing in

Charlie, VR2XMT. He doesn't plan to operate from Hong Kong. QSL direct
or by the bureau. The BA4IT station runs 100 watts to an Inverted Vee
up 80 feet, one block from the Yellow Sea. Jack states that he will be
surprised to work many North Americans. He tells OPDX that he can operate
from the BA4IT's station on 80-10 meters, SSB and CW. However, Jack states
that he has had the most luck working 15, 20 and 40 meters from BA4IT in
the past, so he will emphasize those bands. CW is his mode of choice,
although Jack will venture onto SSB at times.
