>From the group that activated Grand Manan Island as CG1FO in May 2005,
and Janvrin Island as VE1FO/1 in May 2006, six Radio Amateurs from the
Halifax Amateur Radio Club and their wives will be travelling to McEwens
Island off the north shore of the Canadian island province of Prince
Edward Island over the weekend of June 6 - 8, 2008. McEwens Island is

ARLHS CAN-341 is across the New London Bay from our planned operating
location and plans are to activate it as well. They will be using a
special Industry Canada approved ANNE anniversary call sign CI2PEI.
A special QSL card will be produced to commemorate this, our 2008 spring
DXpedition ritual.
QSLing - they will respond to all QSLs 100%, either by way of the bureau
or direct as you prefer. If you wish them to QSL direct, they need at
the very least to cover the cost of postage. That means international
stations - i.e. any stations outside of North America - we will require
$2 US or one IRC. For US stations, they can QSL direct for $1 US
although with the Canadian dollar being close to par these days it may
not quite cover our postage costs - correct Canadian postage ($0.96
Canadian stamp) on the return envelope would be preferred.
Bureau QSL for CI2PEI by way of VE1FQ (Halifax Amateur Radio Club).
Direct QSL for CI2PEI send to: D. Howard Dickson - VE1DHD, 11346 Peggy's
Cove Rd., Seabright, Nova Scotia B3Z 3A7 CANADA.

The WAE Marathon
August 9 - September 14, 2008
In order to allow the entire world to participate in this event, it is
not enough to hold a party over the radio on the actual birthday.
Therefore, the two contests that are closely related to the WAE award,
the WAEDC CW and the WAEDC SSB, will form the timing cornerstones of our
Marathon. Especially for our friends outside of Europe is this
competition a good possibility to receive lots of band points for the
WAE Marathon.
We invite you
The DARC Committee for DX and HF Contesting is the ideal host to invite
the radio amateurs of the world to hold many contacts with their
European partners. Participate as well, and maybe you will even go on a
WAE expedition!
We are celebrating the anniversary with the issuance of an achievement
certificate similar to the WAE Award in accordance with the current
award rules.
Soon we will have all information here: wae60.de/
You will find information about the WAE in general also here:
www.dxhf.darc.de/
In the 21st century, there are already many different electronic log and
internet applications in use in amateur radio. This fact will be used
for applying for the WAE60 Marathon as well as for the award. In
addition, all participants will be eligible for the drawing for
attractive prizes.
What interests the birthday guest

the possibility to print out the certificate over the internet.

it will be entered into the DCL (DARC Contest Logbook) and can be
claimed for all WAE, EUROPA awards, EUDX und DLD.

NEW DX SUMMIT HITS THE STREETS ON FRIDAY, MAY 23, 2008 AT 1600 UTC
The original OH2AQ DX Summit was launched in 1998. It represented
something that changed the entire DX hunt. Spinning the dial became old
history that would never return.
Yasme Foundation President Wayne Mills, N7NG put it as follows; "Jukka
Salomaa, OH2BUA and Antti Kantola, OH5TB were awarded the Yasme
Excellence Award for conceiving, operating, and maintaining the DX
Summit, the first widely used Web-based spotting network portal. They
created a tool that fundamentally changed the nature of HF operating, a
true advancement of the radio art."
The OH2AQ Summit has been a reliable tool for DX spotting for ten years.
It was based on a concept and the computing power of those other days.
Today marks the 10th anniversary of this innovation.
The New DX Summit, operated by Arcala Extremes, OH8X and supported by
Yasme Foundation Inc., boasts a dramatic increase in computing power
with the latest available equipment providing easy access to configure a
Microsoft Server 2003 platform. State-of-the-art multiple servers are
located in California, USA for fast information throughput and huge data
storage. A huge amount of data will be retrieved for potential future
applications. The system has been developed by Admino Technologies Ltd.
located in Oulu, Northern Finland. (http://www.adminotech.com)
Traffic congestion should be a thing of the past. You can sample the
speed and functionality during this coming weekend's WPX Contest. You
should reconfigure your setup to (http://www.dxsummit.fi) (please update
your browser bookmarks) because the original OH2AQ DX Summit will close
down soon.
While the new system begins as a stepped-up carbon copy of the original
system, it will provide an advanced technical platform for many new
features that are on the drawing board as we speak.
Arcala Extremes, OH8X is a group of serious hams seeking technical
innovations, experimenting with advanced radio and antenna concepts to
further the evolution of amateur radio by using the competitive spirit
as their trademark to attract young people. Their stations, OH8X and
CU2A, are located in Oulu, Northern Finland and Azores Islands
respectfully.
Yasme Foundation (www.yasme.org/) is a non-profit corporation
undertaking scientific and educational projects related to amateur
radio, including DXing and the introduction and promotion of amateur
radio in developing countries. [Jarmo OH2BN]
