3DA - 3DA0PW is the callsign issued to Phil, G3SWH and John, EA5ARC
(G3OLU) for their 21-29 February activity from Swaziland [425DXN
1076]. They will operate CW only on 80-10 metres with two
stations. They have a webpage at www.g3swh.org.uk/3da0pw.html. QSL
via G3SWH and LoTW. [TNX G3SWH]
9A - The 9A prefix was issued to Croatia (previously YU2) twenty years
ago. To celebrate this anniversary, several Croatian individual
and club stations have been granted permission to add "20" to
their prefixes (e.g. 9A0Z = 9A200Z, 9A1MM = 9A201MM, 9A2AA =
9A202AA, etc) from 1 January through 31 December 2012. Information
on the relevant award can be found at www.hamradio.hr
CY0 - AA4VK and WA4DAN arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia on 27 December in
preparation for the Sable Island DXpedition [425DXN 1077]. Severe
winds made it unsafe to fly on 28 December, and the "beach runway"
on the island has been covered with water since the 29th. "Due to
the uncertainty of when the runway will be suitable for landing",
they reported on the 30th, "we decided to delay the DXpedition and
return to the US".
FO - The VP6T team will be active as TX6T from Tahiti (OC-046) [425DXN
1076] both on their way to and returning from Pitcairn. The
tentative dates are 15-16 January and 8-10 February. There might
be a short operation as TX6T/p from Mangareva (OC-063) on 6-7
February, but that activity will depend on the early arrival of
the return boat from Pitcairn. QSL via G3TXF. [TNX DX World]
FW - Laci, HA0NAR (www.ha0nar.hu) and other two operators will be
active as FW0R from Wallis Island (OC-054) between 25 January and
23 February 2012. They will run two stations with amplifiers on
160-6 metres CW, SSB and RTTY, with a focus on 160, 80, 40 and
30m. On 5-10 February they will operate as TW0F from Futuna Island
- same DXCC Entity but a different (and rarer) IOTA group, OC-118.
QSL for both callsigns via HA0NAR.
HK0 - On 26 December four HK0NA team members (HK1N, HK1T, HK6F and
HK1MW) departed from the Colombian Navy Base Bahia Malaga,
destination Malpelo Island. The advanced team will set up two
operating sites, 11 stations, 18 antennas and the wireless network
in order to allow the main group to begin radio operations
immediately upon their arrival on 21 January. Bookmark
http://hk0na.com for updates.
KH3 - Susan, W7KFI has to postpone her operation from Johnston Atoll
[425DXN 1071] for 4-6 weeks. The US Fish & Wildlife Service
requires the she "pulls her boat out of the water and has the hull
scraped, then repainted. The shipyard who would do this work
cannot get Susan an appointment until approx four weeks from now",
her QSL manager (KH6CG) reported on 24 December, "so shove off
date will be beginning February at earliest". [TNX DX World]
PJ2 - Ron, N6EE and Chet, W6XK will be active as PJ2N from Curacao
(SA-099) during the ARRL RTTY Round-Up (7-8 January). QSL via LoTW
or direct to NN6NN. They also plan to operate digital modes as
PJ2/N6EE and PJ2/W6XK before and after the contest. [TNX DX World]
PJ4 - Peter, PA8A will be active holiday tyle as PJ4B from Bonaire
(SA-006) on 8-22 January. QSL via PA8A, direct only. [TNX NG3K]
PJ7 - Paolo, IK2QPR reports he will be active as PJ7/IK2QPR from Sint
Maarten (NA-105) on 8-16 January. QSL via home call.
T8 - Mike JA6EGL, Yasu JA6UBY, Masa JH6KXG and Yu JE6DND will be active
as T88SM, T88CP, T88BI and T88HK from Palau (OC-009) on 11-19
January. They plan to be QRV on 80-10 metres CW and SSB. QSL
direct to home calls. [TNX JN6RZM]
VK - Peter VK3ZPF, Matt VK2ADF and Kevin VK3KAB will be active as
VK3SAT from French Island (OC-136) on 7-8 January. It will be a
lightweight, battery powered operation on 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10
metres. Further information can be found at qrz.com under VK3SAT.
VP9 - Jamie, WW3S will be active as VP9/WW3S from Bermuda (NA-005) on
5-10 January, including activity in the ARRL RTTY Roundup. QSL via
home call and LoTW. [TNX The Daily DX]
W - The Baton Rouge ARC (W5GIX) will be active from Grand Isle
(NA-168) on 6-8 January. Operators mentioned are AD5VC, K5DF,
K5DFD, N5IB, W5AJD and W5XU; they plan to be QRV on 80-10 metres
and possibly 6m SSB, CW, and digital modes. [TNX rsgbiota.org]
XU - Alex, UA9YAB and Alex, UA9YPS will be active as XU7YAB and XU7YPS
from Cambodia on 3-6 January. A side trip to IOTA group AS-133 is
also planned. QSL via home calls. [TNX DX World]
YV - A team of Venezuelan operators will be active as YX6AJ from Angel
Falls, the world's highest waterfall, in the Canaima National Park
on on 3-6 January. QSL via YV5AJ.
ANTARCTICA ---> Mika, OH2FFP will operate from a few bases in Antarctica
between mid-January and mid-February. Callsigns to be used are OH2FFP/p from
Nordenskiold multinational camp, OJ1ABOA from the Finnish station Aboa and
SM/OH2FFP from the Swedish station Wasa.
Bhagwati, VU3BPZ expects to arrive at Bharati, India's new reasearch
station located in the Larsemann Hills on Princess Elizabeth Land in early
January. He will remain at the base until March 2013, and he plans to be QRV
on the HF bands in his spare time, possibily with a special callsign. QSL
via I1HYW. [TNX DX World]

CQ DX MARATHON ---> Each year CQ Magazine sponsors a challenge to work as
many countries and zones as possible in the calendar year. The 2011 edition
of the CQ Magazine DX Marathon ends on 31 December, and logs are due no
later than 31 January 2012. See the DX Marathon website for complete

DIAMOND DXCC CHALLENGE ---> To celebrating the 75th anniversary of the DXCC
Award, the ARRL has created the Diamond DXCC Challenge, which will run from
1 January through 31 December 2012. The country list to be used for the
Diamond DXCC Challenge is based upon the list of 231 places shown in 1937.
The idea is to work nowadays entities (not only traditional DXCC entities,
but also cities, IOTA groups, and various sub-political entities inside
DXCC entities) that represent the places listed 75 years ago. Complete
details can be found on the dedicated web pages at www.arrl.org/diamond-dxcc
CONTEST UNIVERSITY ---> Early bird registration is now open for 2012 Dayton
Contest University (CTU) will be held on 17 May at the Crowne Plaza in
Dayton, Ohio. It will be the sixth year for CTU Dayton. Topics, professors
and registration form can be found on http://contestuniversity.com
DX UNIVERSITY ---> DX University (DXU) is the twin to the very successful
Contest University (CTU), providing high-caliber offerings for beginning
and experienced DXers alike. The first session will be held on 20 April
2012 at the Holiday Inn in Visalia, California. Among the lecturers are
AA7A, G3SXW, K4UEE, K9LA, N7NG, W3UR, W6OAT, W9KNI and XE1KK, many of whom
are inductees of the CQ DX Hall of Fame. Learn the secrets of operating
techniques for working DX, optimizing stations & antennas for DXing, about
propagation, information sources, awards, and ethics, remote operating,
QSLing and much more. You will also get the DXpeditioner's view of how
DXers should operate to get into the log. Complete information can be found
at www.dxuniversity.com; registration will begin on 2 January 2012. [TNX
G3SXW]
DXCC NEWS ---> E44PM (Palestine, 2011 operation) and 5N6/YL2SW (Nigeria)
have been approved for DXCC credit. The latter had been on hold pending a
review of the status of the location (in accordance with DXCC rule 8
regarding it being "land-based"). If you had credit for 5N6/YL2SW rejected
in the past, send a note to bmoore[@]arrl.org to have your record updated.
You can see the results when the change has been done to your record by
checking your LoTW account or, the DXCC daily numbers. [TNX NC1L]
HS0AC ---> The Northern California DX Foundation announced a "Christmas
gift" of $500 to help rebuild and re-equip the Radio Amateur Society of
Thailand's HS0AC Club station that was destroyed by recent flooding [425DXN
1076].
The three towers and multi-band yagis were not harmed, the clubhouse itself
can be refurbished and used again, and the HS0AC computer logs are safe.
However, there are no surviving radios: 14 rigs were lost along with
amplifiers and all other devices (read the "HS0AC Horror Story" at
www.qsl.net/rast/)
HS0AC is appealing to the world to help re-build. The goal is to get at
least one complete station replaced as soon as possible, but replacement
will expand as funding is available. This station is open for operation by
any licensed amateur, from anywhere, and for decades has represented
Thailand in contests and as a first HS DX contact. Please help Thailand
hams by donating any amount via PayPal (donate[@]rast.or.th). All donations
will go entirely to rebuilding the station.
