With my compliment to JARL. So far my log has shown contact with almost
all countries in EU and VK/ZL. Most have called me and many a happy
moment has been observed of the clarity of the audio and lack of noise.
In a conversation with a SV and a LA using the repeater call /call port
i found much enjoyment. I would recommend it but not for regular use as
the volume of activity is not yet and you can get bored stiff on watch
for eight hours twiddling fingers. A great deal of patience and
observation of times zones is most important.
It is very expensive to set up and i use the acknowledge best rig for
the car the IC-E2820 and though it does copy to APRS(tm) (mine is set
for every ten minutes) it is no way as good or as handy as
APRS/UIV32(tm). There are a nummber of quirks where you cant use it
until you are Registered, licencee or no, and if i could get back what i
paid for mine i would get shot of it demain.
To be informed go to ARVN at DSTAR on Google, and play the video thru,
its an excellent introduction from an Elmer.
There is one snag and its huge:Moving from one repeater area to another
you have to selct a new frq and a new Rptr call:(, so frankly for a
mobile radio its rubbish and i wish i had never parted with all my cash.
I thought UIV32(tm) was bad in the sticks but D-STAR must be really
thought out!
