Hi Pete,
There is a Yahoogroup for the new BPQ32. GM8BPQ has been known to pop up
with answers.
I asked about the new BPQ32 & the PIC-PAR modem for 9k6 parallel port work
& the answer was "Not as yet". I don't know if the new BPQ32 has any
support for USCC, DRSI, Thor or any HDLC plug in cards. This is open to
correction & update however.
I tried a USCC card with AGW & found that the driver wouldn't stay working
for more than a short time (up to a day or so) without a windows re-boot.
AGW would run, then just the data would stop being received.
The DOS BPQ (supports HDLC plug in cards) didn't offer the Digipeating
features I was looking for from port to port, so I've used G8PZT Xrouter
in DOS (No Linux version of Xrouter so far). G8PZT Xrouter runs without
any trouble & supports the plug in cards, BBS & APRS multiport data nodes.
So presently the ZL1AB BBS has to have two PCs, one for Xrouter & another
for F6FBB/BPQ. Other nodes have Xrouter in one PC with UI-View in another
PC.
There are some Linux IGATE/DX Cluster nodes around locally. I don't know
if they use USCC/DRSI/THOR/HDLC cards or something else. Other multiport
stations I've seen use several serial port cards on different IRQs to get
the number of ports they require for TNCs/Modems.
Certainly Packet is not dead (not growing either) & interest in email is
falling off due to the flood of "Junk mail" being received. APRS has
"peaked" here & growth in numbers is slow now. Fees charged annually
(Ministry of Economic development) for Digipeaters, BBS stations &
repeaters in ZL is proving a disincentive to build new ones.
