The fact that the Canadians changed their flag is not relevant. The
Canadian population has a large portion of French origin who owe no
loyalty to Britain. By far the largest foreign contingent in Australia
came from British origin or are first generation Australians of British
parents so the loyalties are different.
We have plenty of Welsh here, but the Welsh flag would not be recognized
as a national flag - i.e. the flag of any nation would it?
