A sort of explanation of US law.
We still don't know what will happen to Julian Assange (remember Wikileaks).
He is still hiding out in the Ecuadorian embassy becaus he is afraid of being
extradited to America where he stands a good chance of execution at least,
While ham radio may not be intrinsically private and the messages generated
can be easily available on the internet, you do NOT publish anything which the
US Gov deems 'secret'.
A version of "One law for the rich and one for the poor" after all, we are
just the plebs, our privacy does not matter, in fact, here in the UK, this
message and anything else I send can be checked out by the Government.
But let anyone try to seriously encrypt their conversations and they will be
in the deep and smelly. PGP v3i (i for international ) was illegal in America
becaus e the government couldn't crack it.
I say was because according to 'the Reg' and other sources, even PGP is not
secure any more due to improvements in computers, so go on the internet at
your peril and be silly enough to use it for banking and buying.
I know someone who could easily find out my credit card number and PIN if I
were silly enough to use it. Mind you, he is the type who enjoys playing with
computers and mobile 'phones, he even learnt Klingon as well - I think we all
know the type.
ps If you want the news on Julian Assange, go to witter and type
#julianassange or #assangeC, be prepared to be deluged by tweets from JA, his
mother, and dozens of their 'friends'.
The official news keeps very quiet about him, probably hoping he will be
forgotten. The latest is that he is hoping to become an Australian MP but the
Aussies are keeping very quiet about that ?
