Why is everyone so scared of the Internet?
If packet messages are visible to non-hams via the Internet, what's the
big deal? How is it going to harm you, the poster?
When you send a packet message, even a so-called "private" one, anyone can
eavesdrop on the transmissions, reassemble the message and do what the heck
they like with it. So can the sysop of every BBS your message goes through.
Once you send the message you have no further control over it. It's a risk
you take when you send a message by any communication medium. The government
already read all your emails and listen in to your skype calls. Even the
humble letter can be steamed open.
So just don't say anything libellous, defamatory, incriminating, embarassing,
personal or otherwise. You wouldn't expect to do it on Twatter and get away
with it, so why think you should be able to get away with it on packet?
How is Packet any more "private" than any other medium?
What earthly difference does it make if your utterings are read by a ham
or a non-ham? What will be the terrible consequences?
So I repeat, exactly HOW, if you are decent, honest and law-abiding, can
packet bulls via the Internet do you any harm? Pray, do enlighten us...
73, Paula
