Hi All,
I have a customer whom is a "Mom & Pop" cable TV supplier. He installs
SMATV systems into senior's apartment complexes and delivers up to
550MHz analog TV.
He's recently been offered a small unit that'll take 4 regular analog 1v
P-P video signals and produce a QAM-256 encoded RF carrier for injection
into his "headend" gear. The device is $900 in one offs.
With gear this cheap why the heck aren't we rushing to upgrade our
shacks and repeaters? QAM-256 capable TV's are now selling for $199 at
my local Acme supermarket or one could use a capture card in ones PC for
half that price.
Seems to me that this would be a pretty cheap and compatible way to go
rather than not go digital because of the huge expense and compatibility
issues.
I've asked my customer to let me be borrow one of these devices. I'll
let you know how I get on.
