ZL1BQ APRS/Data Node
The ZL1BQ APRS/Data Node operates from Hazel Ave clubrooms, as it has done
for a number of years, being the first station to run APRS 24/7/365 in
Auckland.
It presently has two ports 5625 (from Klondyke) and 144.575 MHz APRS
(simplex).
Cross-port digipeating is enabled so that Data traffic from Klondyke is
linked to 144.575 MHz and vice-versa.
The Auckland IGATE stations operate on 144.575 MHz along with mobile &
home stations. ZL1BQ also acts as a local digipeater for the central
Auckland area.
When the 23cm D-Star from Klondyke to Hazel Ave becomes a reality, the
5625 link will likely be discontinued.
Over 100 ZL stations active in the APRS mode ZL wide are visible via the
ZL1BQ station and Klondyke 5625. Stations may be mobile, fixed Weather
reporting type or APRS Misc. mode type. The main PC runs DOS G8PZT Xrouter
software to a Baycom USCC card. The second PC (connected by Ethernet LAN
& a Router) run UI-View to give a map display of ZL APRS stations.
The AREC implications of APRS have been fully realised by some South
Island AREC Sections. Real time tracking of personnel, vehicles and other
"assets" is achievable.
