Xrouter APRS settings Thursday, 28 August 2008

                                                              de ZL1ABS

Updates to the standard default settings in Xrouter to make the ID beacons
more compatible with other APRS programs and identify that Xrouter is the
originating station.

In the xrouter.cfg file:

IDTEXT
!DDMM.mmN/DDDMM.mmW#PHGnnnn/Frequency comment

(In a TNC2 the BTEXT contains the data rather than IDTEXT)

Example for the Southern hemisphere:

IDTEXT
!3645.40S/17442.12E#PHG5020/144.600 MHz Albany.

The format is Latitude/Longitude/ Symbol/PHG/Power of TX/Height above
average terrain/aerial gain/Frequency of port/Comment (QTH or local voice
calling channel etc)

The example above says:
Latitude 36"45"40 South
Longitude 174"42"12 East
APRS Symbol # = Digipeater (Star)
PHG5020
5 = 25 Watts TX power
0 = 10 Feet above average terrain
2 = 2dB aerial gain
0 = Omni directional aerial
Frequency (of the Xrouter port) = 144.600 MHz
Comment = (QTH) Albany (may include a voice calling channel if wanted)

 In the PORTS section of the Xrouter.cfg for each port have a line
specifying the APRS ID sending path and a TO field signifying that Xrouter
is the type of originating station.

IDPATH=APXR87,WIDE2-2

(Equivalent to UNPROTO setting for PATH in a TNC2)

In the above example APXR signifies Xrouter as the sending station. "87"
signifies that Xrouter version 1.87 is in use. WIDE 2-2 is the path
causing the ID to be digipeated twice over the RF network.

Also in the PORTS section have a line (per port) specifying the APRSPATH
of the APRS module in Xrouter:

APRSPATH=WIDE2-2
