Kenwood has released a firmware update (v1.05) for the TH-D72A/E HTs.
Looks like there are some useful APRS related changes in this one:

thd72_main_update_e.html

If you upgrade, you need to upgrade your MCP software too:

http://www.kenwood.com/i/products/info/amateur/mcp4a_e.html

There are spotty reports of problems saving memories from MCP files
after the update.

I just upgraded mine w/o issues. Installed the new MCP, read the radio,
saved the settings, did the upgrade, full reset, then saved my settings
back to the radio.
