This seems to be no problem if it doesn't affect anybody else. Recently, RAYNET assisted the Emergency Planning Unit, police and ambulance medics at a 10 km Road Race in north east England. The main facility was a voice network on 2m to pass messages between road junctions on the 10 km (6.25 miles) route which was closed to public vehicles for a few hours.

We also had an APRS network on a 70cm channel with 5 mobile rigs and also a hand portable APRS station shadowing the Chief Marshal. 5 of the APRS stations beaconed their location every 30 seconds, which would be quite anti-social on an APRS channel. The official race lead car, with a huge digital elapsed time clock on the roof, had a RAYNET operator in the passenger seat. He beaconed his position every 10 seconds.

At Event Control, the emergency services could see the location of key personnel at all times. We used the UI-View32 program with AGWPE to provide a street map, complete with allocated junction numbers (J1 to J86) to save RAYNET operators having to use long road names. The Emergency Planning Officer provided a projector to display the RAYNET laptop PC's map onto a white board.

APRS worked very well, as all 6 stations were in 70cm range of each other, so none transmitted on top of others.

2. New add-on program for UI-View: UI-PHG-DFS

The Windows installation zip file for my UI-PHG-DFS program has had 125 downloads. So far, nobody has reported any bugs. I expect to release version 1.0 in the near future. If you have any suggestions for changes or any bug reports, please let me know. The downloadable file is version 0.2

The program draws PHG and RNG circles. For direction finding it handles DFS and BRG/NRQ codes to draw DFS circles and BRG bearings on the UI-View map.

Unzip the file to a spare directory. Double click file setup.exe to start the Windows installation process. Download the zip file from:-

http://www.filefront.com/14592023/UI-PHG-DFS-V02.zip/

by clicking the yellow or gold icon marked "Download Now".
