Dear Group,

I just up loaded my power point presentation to the files section. Anyone can use it or modify it as they choose. Let me know your comments and if you see any errors.

Thanks especially to Bob and Lynn for the screen shots and info I stole.

I am planning a bit of commentary to go alone with it, but have not put that all together.

Scott,

I just read the operntracker+ manual cover to cover and I think I missed two things I was looking for:

1) I cant find any mention of what TX format is used. Is it Mic-E or is it standard APRS? There is a switch for "compressed" but no mention of what it is otherwise. I hope it is not raw NMEA...

2) the spec says it can receive packets but then I can't find any further mentinon about receiving packets. There is a button for setting waypoint output, but is that the only receive format?

Can the Opentracker+ be connected like any other TNC and used to monitor packets?

For the next revision of the manual, it would be nice if these topics were explicitly addressed.

thanks

Looks like a great product, I wish I had mroe time to play!

Standard APRS format (with optional !DAO!) or Base91 if you've got the
'compressed' option enabled.

Unless you load the KISS firmware, yes. I've got a version that puts
out packets in TNC-2 format, but I haven't finished the input side yet.
The idea was to make it work with non-KISS software.

With the KISS firmware loaded.

Yes, it needs a lot of updates. The wiki is more active right now, and
at some point I'll clean it up and fold a lot of that back into the manual.

I'll comment on this part. The REALLY cool thing about the $32 OpenTracker 1+ is it's capability to decode packets without any additional hardware. When in normal tracker mode, the OT1+ can output $GPWPL waypoint strings with truncated names up to 9 chars long, enough for a 2x3 call with two digit SSID.

Another great option is re-flashing the OT1+ with the KISS firmware and turn it into a general purpose KISS TNC for full TX and RX. The new HamHUD II+ has a built-in "modem" that is based on the OT1+ flashed with the KISS firmware. The decode capability is so good, I felt it was adequate for the internal TNC option.
