Unfortunately, there are not many Garmin GPS units that put out NMEA which is what the TT4 needs. Most of the Garmin's have a proprietary binary output, a.k.a Fleet Management Interface (FMI). To my knowledge, only ArgentData's OpenTracker2 will work with the Garmin FMI. To that extent only the Garmin Nuvi 350 will plot the correct position. The rest of the Garmin units capable of the FMI protocol leave breadcrumbs as the target moves.

The TinyTracker series was meant to be used with a GPS puck.

Correct. The Nuvi 350 is out of production as well, but refurbished
units can be had for around $109 (from RS for one).

ArgentData also has a stripped-down Tracker2 in a cable that can be
used to connect a Nuvi to a Kenwood radio. The smart cable
generates NMEA serial from the Garmin interface, so that gives you
yet another method to connect up a Nuvi. I believe there's a
version that has a DE-9 connector so that would work with a TT.
Last I heard he was waiting on something to get the next batch of
them made, so check with ArgentData on availability of those cables.

Yeah, still short on some parts but I'm expecting a batch in tomorrow.
I'm not certain it's going to be enough to cover the existing orders for
the Kenwood style, but there should be plenty of the d-sub version.

Assuming I get my test system back up and running... it crashed today
and I've got to try to get XP reloaded on it.

The Garmin GPSes for maritime use do output (and receive) NMEA.

A comparison to UI view would be helpful. I can't make up my mind! Thanks Steve Messages in this topic (4) ________________________________________________________________________ 2b. Re: APRSPoint Posted by: "Bruce Coates" bruce.coates(AT)sasktel.net lpcoates Date: Thu Sep 10, 2009 5:54 pm ((PDT)) Hi Steve I've been very happy with APRSPoint and would recomend it so long as you can live with its current limitations. In my case that's the lack of IGate functionality and the inability to connect to it via TCP/IP. I would also highly recomend UI-View. It's a very powerful program and is nowhere near the end of its life. All of the add-ons make it very powerful. (I'm not making your decisioin any easier, am I?) In short, I've been using UI-View since not long after it came out. I've also been using APRSPoint on and off for a couple of years and I can't make up my mind either. In fact, I run both at the same time on our balloon chases. 73, Bruce VE5BNC ----- Original Message ----- From: <sbuck8346(AT)sbcglobal.net> To: <APRS(AT)yahoogroups.com> Sent: Thursday, September 10, 2009 8:16 AM Subject: [APRS] APRSPoint
