I bought a 10 metre yagi in the expectation that 10 metres is going to
continue to perform well for few years. I started putting it together,
nicely made good solid aluminium tubing all drilled and ready for assembly
and each of the pieces marked with a transfer - D1 and D2 = Director, RA
for radiator and R for reflector. Each element has a central tube for
mounting on the boom and two end tubes which push in each end of the
appropriate element and are fixed in place with a metal thread screw - you
know the picture anyway.
Something wrong - the radiator is the longest element and one side each of
the Reflector and Director is longer than the other. The same applies to
the Reflector, one side longer than the other. The radiator same again,
lopsided and the longest element, longer than the Reflector instead of
shorter. The Reflector should be the longest but it is not. The idiot that
put on the transfers has put them on the wrong pieces of tubing. Now I
have to get a tape and measure everything so that the right pieces go in
the right places. That's not difficlt for someone with experience of beams
like me but to an inexperienced Foundation licencee or a CBer it could
have him wondering why the 80 metre dipole works better than the beam on
10 and why the SWR is so high!
