Hello Tim,

I had noticed some times when the satellite entered into "eclipse". Two months
ago I noticed the same difficulty in listening to my return. I got the comment
with some friends here in Brazil. I did a simulation and in your case (the AO-
7) he was not eclipsed. But it may be that the phenomenon of ionospheric
scintillations . This could jeopardize their receipt. I do not know how to
behave the Ionospheric scintillations in United States. But in Brazil it is
limited, based on studies it is usually an hour after sunset and runs until
midnight most frequently between September and March, but may occur with less
frequency in other periods. And coincidentally in March I had noticed a few
times some difficulty in tracking the signal of my return. It's only a
theory. According to Roland, PY4ZBZ (
http://www.qsl.net/py4zbz/satelite.htm#ao7 - very nice informations in
portuguese about satellites ) , the ionospheric scintillations can occur
anywhere. As for AO-7 seems to me very well, despite its problems.

Hi all,
?
Just a kind note of thanks for the many replies, both direct and on the
website, in regards to operational Satellites.
?
Often when a person is away from the aspect?of the hobby awhile, it takes a
bit to get your head around whats active and operational.
?
I have printed out and tabulated what is available and where. The AMSAT - NA
site for orbit prediction is invaluable and priceless..
?
Thanks again,

Could anyone please explain, in newbie terms, if it is possible to split a
telemetry data stream from a satellite OBC into two data streams, sent
simultaneously on two nbfm channels, each PSK with the phase difference
between them?

I have in mind a conversation which I don't fully understand, about these
being the I and Q components, and this offering a doubling of the data rate
compared with using one nbfm channel.

Grateful for any pointers on or off the -bb

many thanks

Luc,

Sorry. In the heat of battle this morning I totally didn't recognise
your call sign but thanks for the mode V/S contact on AO-51 just a short
while ago!

Thanks to everyone who replied.

It seems that small yagis and quagis are OK in roof spaces provided that the
liner underneath the roof tiles is not metalised.
Contrary to my expectations, rain and snow on the roof doesn't cause problems.
DH5MK has some nice pictures of his attic antenna installation on his web
site.

Hi David

I just notice that but when i try to explain our previous QSO'S the satellite
was below my wet roof top and it's kill all S band signal.
Since about 5 passes i'm quite alone on mode V/S but i can test my new wifi
beam and i don't know if an helix can beat it? The S band
antenna is linear on AO-51 and as far i can remember in theory using a
circular polarized antenna will induce about 3db of losses?

The fades a nearly gone on most of the pass but those remaining come from very
bad antenna pointing on the satellite.

Hope to meet you again on the LEO'S
