Thanks for letting me know it was NO-44. I wasn't tracking it nor setup to

I had a brief conversation with Kent, WA5VJB, at Dayton this year. Our
discussion turned to log periodic antennas and operation at the 3rd
harmonic. Kent said that the elements need to be "swept" forward in a
herringbone pattern for proper operation on the 3rd harmonic.

For an example, look at a standard VHF television (log periodic)
antenna. The elements of the antenna are quarter-wave for channels 2
through 6, and three-quarter wave on channels 7 through 13. Rather than
being perpendicular to the boom, the elements are swept forward.

Hello Bob and others,

Just to get the ball rolling on what you require for the 10m/12m
transponder. I have no experience in building anything like this, just
a lot of questions buzzing around.

What are the maximum physical sizes?
What is the power supply voltage and maximum current?
Does it need a beacon, be it a keyed input or even a continuous carrier?
Can it use any sections of the #2 transponder? e.g. an IF output from
the 29MHz section. Or will they just share an antenna?
How much bandwidth should it be? Can it be based on a ceramic filter
e.g. 50kHz at 4.5MHz from a TV or 25kHz at 45MHz used in FM radios.
What is the expected 12m power output?
Are there any link budget calculations?
Is there any segment of the 12m band that will be better suited? In VK
SSB is recommended from 24.930-24.990MHz

Triggered by the discussions on HF satellites ...

I did give RS-15 a try this morning and yes, I could hear it !
Still very weak during a 45 degrees elevation pass.
The next pass was higher, but then I didn't hear anything.

Click here for a screen shot, you will see the recorded signal of RS-15.

My set-up is really marginal: just a TS2000 connected to a simple 14MHz dipol.

What an interesting piece of work on RS15 !

I notice that the graphs for 2009 on the 'solar elevation' page predict
that RS15 is in, or shortly will be in, a period of permanent illumination.

Perhaps another good example of a satellite with working solar panels that
would have benefited from some form of hardware to bypass the command and
control circuits when they failed and put the satellite into transponder
mode.

Thanks Henk

I have no experience in building one either, but I would think that the 10.7
MHz IF of a typical FM receiver, designed to feed a 455 KHz 2nd IF, would
give ample bandwidth. Follow it with a 100KHz filter, mix with a 14.2xxx
LO, into your 24 MHz PA, and you've got a transponder.

I think...

I am new to cubesats & am having decode issues. I have the Polysat CPX
decoder and finally got correct keps pasted into decoder
preferences>satellite.

I am using SAT-PC32 and have appropriate keps and freq data loaded. Program
tracks CP-6 correctly and agrees with tracking info in CPX decoder.

Radio is IC910H in LSB mode and radio is tracking SAT-PC32 doppler freq data
OK. Today (June 7), I had a decent pass with reasonable EL. Antenna are
tracking CP-6 ok via SAT-PC32. I heard nothing during today's 10 min pass.

I believe I have another issue beyond not hearing signal. I am using an AEA
DSP2232 tnc between IC910H and CPX decoder. It is set for 9600baud packet
data from copying now defunct GO-32 BB. I believe I need to figure out how
to set it up for 1200baud FSK. Is that correct?

Jim
