Hi,

Sounds interesting - but PSK-31 and Doppler may be problematic - will this
be a linear transponder or... ?

Hi Bob,

Let's go for it. I'm keen on using the unused "exclusive" HF satellite
allocations. I hope many of us will be interested in supporting the concept.

Can someone please remind me of the name and callsign of the sat op who
operated from Desecheo. Many thanks.

A group of us tried PSK31 on AO-40. The Doppler was a B***h on 2.4 gig,
but according to my log in October 2001 we managed to make 3 contacts over a
period of 2 days with w2xb, n4zq, and kb3kj. Ah those were the golden days
of HEO sat ops, hopefully to happen again.....

I think it's a great idea. I suspect there will, indeed, be some Doppler
challenges.

Although, I wonder.... How would Doppler's impact on PSK-31 be different from,
say, SSTV? I ask because the SSTV schedules on AO-51 have been pleasantly
surprising to me, in terms of the quality of image I was getting.

73 to all,

Tim

Some rough and ready calculations *assuming a LEO* are that PSK needs the TX
frequency adjusting every second or so, certainly over the duration of a
short PSK transmission no Doppler correction on TX at 29MHz will result in
no QSO.

But there's plenty of software which can adjust an HF transmitter so it'll
just be a question of user education. Myself I would probably TX with my
TS-480 and RX with a TS-2000.

PSK-125 may be a better option as it is on 6m when there's an opening (such
as today).

Robert - long range = HEO / MEO or long range planning?

For those who recall back in the day of RS-13 I think, was mode K.? 15M up and
10M down.? It provided some very interesting over the horizon contacts when we
had good sun spots.?

We are considering an HF transponder for our next long range
CUBESAT mission planning. ?It can have three modes:

1) APRS 1200 baud for command and control and APRS on 145.825
2) PSK-31 multi-user SSB uplink on 29 MHz and FM down link on
145.825
3) 29 MHz uplink and 24 MHz downlink SSB transponder

We will welcome someone in the AMSAT community that wants to
contribute to mission 3, the HF transponder. ?We tried the #2
PSK-31 mission on PCSAT2 and RAFT, both failed due to HF antenna
deployment problems. ?Now we are going to try again...
