As a relative "newbie" to satellites, all this talk about the current L/u mode
on AO51, and next weeks V/s mode, looks like a lot of fun. I have 23cm tx and
13cm rx capability, but no antennas at present for either band. My current
operating conditions are limited to portable operations only, and I wonder if
any other list members can suggest/reccomend any hand held/portable/easily
packed away designs that work well? (commercial or homebrew) As well as my
910H, I have a Kenwood TH-59 23cm HT, and I can confirm that 700 milliwatts
into the HT's ducky won't cut it! (tried last night) Any suggestions welcome
regards and 73

I'll go along with that. I'm about to start on my second 3/5 element
2m/70cm yagi.

What is the TWITTER name to look for?

The weather forecast is for a cold/cold front to drop from the North over
New England...

This is NOT typical weather as we usually get our weather from the WEST.

In looking at it last night, there is a possibility that the front may force
the ARHAB flight to cross the Atlantic Coastline farther South than New
England...

Hey Angelo,

Have you - or has anyone - ever received a QSL from Yuri?

Having the exotic maritime grids in the log would be nice, I suppose - but
they don't help with any awards or anything unless the operator will provide a
QSL card. My understanding is that he's next-to impossible to get QSLs from.
He's not unique in that regard, but I just can't get too fired up about
working guys from grids that I likely won't ever get confirmed.

Any hints on getting a card from him will be very helpful.

73 to all,

Tim - N3TL

I am sadden to hear of the passing of Telmer. I have W0YPT in my satellite
logs many times going back to the very early days.Always enthusiastic in his
AMSAT activities. He will be missed.

I'm a bit confused here. I'm currently receiving APRS signals from the ISS on
145.800 instead of 145.825 MHz. In addition, I've just updated my keps on
Satscape and I see the ISS footprint way east of my location here in Florida.
I appear to be having an overhead pass or close to it. I don't have time to
really run this down. Does anyone have an explanation. Is this happening to
anyone else?

Regarding the frequency, it looks like the crew misconfigured the radio.
Hopefully it will be corrected.

Regarding the pass, I showed the footprint covering Florida (but not near an
overhead pass). It was a 3 degree pass in Houston. Are you basing your
observation on the signal strength or did your tracking program indicate you
were outside the footprint? If it showed you were not in the footprint, you
have a tracking program issue. If you base it on signal strength, you can
easily get a 5X9+ singnal from ISS even on a lower pass due to the 5-10 watt
output of the rig.

Kenneth

I have made 2 contacts now both were VO-52. Both times on SSB and very
confusing. So say I'm working you. I found a clear freq by sending alot
dots. The uplink tx is switched to LSB. Do I leave the tuning dial on the
uplink rig and just use the tuning dial on the downlink to do my tuning? Or
do I juggle both rigs tuning dial and get confused?

If you are not controlling both with a computer, then try to just tune the
higher of the two frequencies, which is the uplink on VO-52. Only tune the
receive when you have to in order to copy the other station.

Take a look at http://www.amsat.org/amsat/features/one_true_rule.html
