I tried to work AO-51 on the ~11:35Z pass over my qth (EM97) and heard
someone returning but didn't quiet have the hang of adjusting the
doppler on the downlink so i didn't catch it. Anyone around that
heard who was answering my call? I would like to thank them for
trying to answer my first AO-51 call.

Thanks

Hi,

Anyone using the Sat Tracking feature on Ham Radio Deluxe?

When I click on New Satellite, CPU usage shoots to 100% and it takes over a
minute to display the track of the new sat. Also very slow on several other
functions. This can't be normal, is it my computer or is it Vista? Running a
new Lenovo desktop with Windows Vista.

I tried it with my Windows XP laptop and it worked fine. Darn Vista. Any way
to get it working properly with Vista (32 bit version)?

Any cure?

Blame the programmer, not the operating system.

?Maybe it is the programmer ... but it also could be the OS.

I'm running HRD with Satellite Tracker here on a tiny Acer netbook with an
Atom processor - NOT the Mr. Olympia of the processor world ... hihi. The Acer
came with Windows XP Home, and every feature of HRD - including Satellite
Tracker - runs perfectly for me.?

By the way - so does SatPC 32 and Orbitron with WispDDE for Doppler control.?

With HRD, the switch to or addition of another satellite is instantaneous,
with no lag of any kind. And Google Earth tracks right along with it - which
is one of the coolest features I've seen in any ham-related software.

As I said at the start ... I suppose the programmer could be to blame. But I
intend to avoid Vista absolutely as long as I can.

Good morning
I had the same problem, one computer ran very slow as you say, when I swapped
to the other computer it ran fine.
But here was the catch,Both computers were running Windows XP pro
Never really found what the problem was
Would be interesting to find out what the problem was.
So I really dont think it is the operating system at this time.

I used a VHF and a UHF at a time. The UHF with radial the VHF without it.
Could be my coaxial line was too long and poor quality it
resulted with a deceptive experience.

Interesting the comments on HRD and the slow sat swap. I have not seen
that here on any of my 3 XP machines. I have not tried it on the Vista
laptop.
I do have a problem with the TX contol while in satellite mode and my
FT-847. Pushing the TX makes the radio start blinking and then shows
error in the
display. Only way to get out of it is to turn the radio off. Wondering
if anyone else has seen this problem.

I am interesting in home brewing a 2 meter/20 cm diplexer similar to
the inhandle diplexer in my arrow antenna but that can handle a little
more power. Can anyone point me toward a kit or some schematics?

I use this design:

http://www.qsl.net/yc0hle/duplexer2m70cm.pdf

With a couple of WA5VJB "Cheap Yagi" aerials, 5 elements on 70cm and 3
elements on 2m. It works pretty well.

Hi, Steve
I have a pair of the M2 commercial eggbeaters I use for Field Day. They both
have the radial kits underneath them, and an SSB Electronics preamp. My FT-847
provides the power for the preamps, so I don't need a bias tee.
I've also used them a few times at the home QTH, and they're "OK" for casual
use. They're nicely made, but getting the loops installed can be very
frustrating, as the CopperWeld wire that's used is very stiff and springy.
Watch your eyes when installing them! If you happen to let go of the end
you're wrestling with, it'll fly out reeeally fast. It also tends to tarnish
very quickly, and not knowing how thick the layer of copper is, I wonder about
their long-term performance. It looks like it would be pretty easy to replace
the CopperWeld with some solid copper wire the correct size.
This year I'll be going with one of the Gulf Alpha "Dual Band Easy Satellite"
antennas. It's kind of like an Arrow Antenna on steroids, with 6 elements on
2M, and 8 elements on 70cm on a 6' boom.

I'm with you Tim. Older than AO-7 and hoping that there is some ham
in Alaska that would get on AO-7.

Does anyone on here know of any active, or semi-active ham in Alaska
on AO-7? Would sure love to setup a sked!

They say that no question is a dumb question, so here goes - since I
haven't seen this discussed before, but maybe I missed it.

What makes AO-7 so special? Why is it that we lost AO-10, AO-13 and
all the others in the past several years, yet this one is still
working? I know the batteries are dead, but I'm primarily interested
in how this bird is able to stay in it's orbit for over 30 years? And
if it's orbit is decaying, how is it that it has apparently decayed so
slowly?

I was under the impression that unless a satellite is occasionally
'boosted', it will eventually re-enter? I somehow doubt AO-7 has any
fuel left in it's boosters; if it had any.
