Hello AMSAT Community,
I am Nathaniel Bonton, the Sensor's subsystem leader for the Balloon III
project. This is a project of the C.A.P.E (Cajun Advanced Picosatellite
Experiment) organization located at the University of Louisiana at
Lafayette. The Balloon III project is designing, programming and launching
of a weather balloon to be released from the Lake Charles, La weather
station. There are many different implementations such as: temperature
sensors, slow scan TV, etc.
This brings me to the purpose of this post. I would like to ask anyone if
they know of any one that was able to implement a slow scan TV on a weather
balloon and if it is even feasible.
Thank you for your help and input.

I have a Kenwood TS-2000, but was disappointed about the birdy on
436.795, which makes both SO-50 and AO-27 unusable.
Now if that doesn't bother you, the 2000 is a great radio.
However, I wanted to have a dedicated satellite radio, and I decided
to go with the Icom IC-910H.
I guess it all depends. If you are looking for a radio that will do
HF & VHF/UHF and satellites, and aren't too concerned about using
those two birds, then go with the 2000. You can't beat it for the
money.
If you want to have a rig that was designed specifically for satellite
work, and if you already have an HF rig, then the 910H is for you.
There are other older radios available, but I personally like to stay
with rigs that are still in production.

Hello!
I'm in Tucson AZ tonight, in advance of tomorrow morning's hamfest.
I will not have to hurry back to Phoenix after the hamfest, so I'm
going to make a nice drive home after the hamfest - 300 miles/500km!
I am planning to head toward grid DM53 in eastern Arizona. I am
confident I will be out in that area for two AO-51 passes tomorrow
evening (0055-0109 and 0236-0247 UTC), possibly parking on the line
between grids DM52 and DM53. Since it will probably be a 2-hour
non-stop drive from Tucson to reach DM53, and at least an hour to
get to a place in DM52 where I can stop and operate, it is possible
that the first AO-27 pass I have at 2030 UTC will be from DM42 (the
same grid as the hamfest). I am not sure I can make it to DM53 for
any of the AO-27 or SO-50 passes during the afternoon, but should be
in DM52 for some of those passes.
Although I am traveling with my little laptop, I have already printed
the pass predictions for the FM satellites and VO-52 for the day. I
also have made notes to know where on my drive I will be in DM52 and
then DM53, so I don't need to run a mapping program on the laptop or
rely on a GPS map while driving.
For all of my Saturday activity - at the hamfest in Tucson, and on
the road in the afternoon/evening - I will be happy to QSL these
contacts. Just e-mail me directly with the pertinent details for
our QSO(s), and I'll get a card out to you. If I haven't sent out
my cards from other demonstrations and activity in the last few
weeks, I can add any cards from tomorrow to the envelope heading
your way.

Hello!
I am at the hamfest in Tucson AZ, and realized I forgot to mention
where I will be lurking on VO-52. Look for me on the downlink around
145.910-145.915 MHz USB. I like to be a little higher in the
passband, as not to bother those who are closer to the center of it.
I have a very shallow VO-52 pass at 1553-1601 UTC, with maximum
elevation of 7 degrees. The following pass at 1727-1740 UTC is
much better for me, with maximum elevation of 71 degrees.

It still looks like I will be going to Fargo for the Hamfest on April 18th.
Is there any place I can down load some info handouts and/or membership
forms?
If the weather allows I may also demo the FM birds that are available.
Help is always appreciated!

I just discovered that my digital recorder failed to record the AO-51 pass
today at 1539 UTC. apparently, the external microphone has stopped working.
I did not make any written notes of the contacts I made as I usually do
this later using the recordings. I made contacts with WD9EWK, W7JPI and
N5AFV. If anyone has a recording of this pass they would be willing to share
please contact me.
Thanks, Kent

SSTV start tones just heard (1745z approx.) on 145.800, but no completed pix.
Several attempts made.
Previous pass- Charles worked HA stations again - HA2MR, HA8TM I think (Tomasz
maria) and others, in ?Hungarian, from quite early in his footprint over
Hungary.
