With 660 stations using Emily's logger worldwide 24 stations have made the

WildBlue seems to get better reviews than the previous generation technology
(DirecPC/Dish's offering).

Folks,

Many thanks to all of you who watched the live stream of the Parkside ARISS
contact and who sent your best wishes.

I have recorded contacts watching from

Puerto Rico

India

Netherlands

upstate New York

Canada

Marshall Space Flight Center

Johnson Space Center

And many, many in the UK (including non amateurs !!)

We are working on a video of the contact which we will release hopefully -
it was a late night after the teardown and travelling home!

I would appreciate comments on the stream itself - we hope to make this a
regular part of future ARISS contacts in the UK.

Regards

I've been looking at wsjt for EME stuff, but I just can't get it to
work. It won't compile, throwing strings of errors, and the binary
package crashes immediately on startup. Emails to K1JT's arrl.net
address don't seem to be answered (although perhaps he's busy).

Any thoughts?

Hi Dave,

My neighbor had the DirectWay satellite internet service a number of years
ago. The specs are pretty good, in terms of transferring large files, but the
latency is also very high. She found that for interactive applications, she
got better performance from a 56k modem, and it was a lot cheaper! So, the
answer to your question depends on what you are going to be doing.

We really need to work on that speed-of-light limit. It's really getting in
the way.

Greg KO6TH

p.s. She gave me the dish and electronics when she moved, if anyone knows a
good use for it...

The current TV ads are for Hughesnet but the latency is perhaps unacceptable
and the cost, at around $350 a month for
the "high speed" service, prohibitive.

are you talking about the linux version perhaps? In this case I'll
give you some hints. I have version 6 and 7 both stable and working
fine on Ubuntu Linux 8.04.2. It required quite some work and research
on the web though.

From the BBC

*The International Space Station, once a place where astronauts would
share food and facilities, is said to be embroiled in a Cold War-like
stand-off.*

A Russian cosmonaut has complained he is no longer allowed to use a US
toilet as well as a US exercise bike.

The full story is here! <http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/7973747.stm>

I did check beforehand to ensure that it wasn't April 1st but that is
tomorrow!

So the obvious question is just who lays claim to the ARISS gear up there?

Who can use it and will they take their toys home with them so the
others can't play with them!

Good god!

Yes, -ish. Some sound cards let you select "Mix Out" as a record input,
so you're capturing whatever is being played back. Quite often the
Windows drivers for cards disables this in case you use it to steal
pennies from record company execs and they can only afford 14.5kg of
cocaine that week instead of their usual 15kg.

I was able to catch 3 nice photos from the ISS as it passed over this
afternoon.
In the middle of one of them, the antennas where resetting the the other side,
but still got most of it.
Is there some way of "fixing them up" after the down load?
It looks like the others are much smoother than the ones I got.
Now if I could only catch them on the repeater....someday.

Greeting to you gents on the "other" side of the pond. At or near your LOS
keep an ear out for the plaintive calls from W7LRD. Mika has about a 60
second window with me, perhaps some you fellows in the UK can share a slice of
the footprint with me. near 145.958.
