Is the AMSAT Journal web page (http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/journal/)
correct in that the current issue is November/December 2008? If not, when
was the last issue mailed, as I haven't received any since the
November/December 2008 issue. Also is there any way to order backissues? I
can't seem to find any of the other 2008 issues.

I'm asking as my magazine delivery has been rather unreliable lately.

Hi All,

Anyone know if you can purchase a G-5500 control box without the rotator? I've
been trying to ask Yaesu, but phone messages and emails have gone
unanswered...

Thanks,

As does WispDDE.

Don't get me wrong.... I love HRD and use it for everything else, but...
IMO its satellite tracking is not quite there yet. If it gets the other
nice functions that I'm used to in WispDDE - I will be using it for
everything :)

WispDDE also has the ability to allow you to define a radio profile so
that if you had multiple 2m radios, say one for FM and another for SSB,
it could automatically select between them based on the satellite you
were working.

You can even have multiple profiles for the same radio, I do this for my
910, so that it gets setup differently for the ISS vs VO52.

A profile can be satellite specific, like my example above for a single
radio, or like the one I have for AO7 that selects the IC910 for 2m and
the TS-850 for 10m when its in mode A.

I like WispDDE for its ability to not only correct for doppler and set
the frequency, but actually chose the right radio and then change the
radio to the right band and select the mode; i.e. USB, LSB, FM, etc.
without me having to remember what's where. The most I have to do is hit
the "Satellite" button on the 910.

WispDDE does all this out-of-the-box, there's no jiggery pokery trying
to get multiple programs running to achieve the same thing.

As you can see from this discussion, each of us has our own methods.

Bill.... try them all and choose what's best for you :)

regards

Tim

AMSAT has a need for a volunteer Visual C#, C++, Visual Basic programmer.

The task is to take an Excel file of Area Coordinator information, including
their skills and produce an output file/spreadsheet that:

1) Parses through the cells containing multiple skills in a cell and develop a
list of those skills

2) compiles a list of these skills and then produces a list of all the ACs
that have that skill (with their contact information)

3) We can setup the spreadsheet in a fixed format, so this program can be run
multiple times a year on the database.

Please contact Gould, WA4SXM if you are interested in writing a program to do
this.

Gould

If you have a sample spreadsheet, I could get started tonight. I should
be able to hack it out reasonably quick for you.

On the 0005Z March 26 (2005 EDT on the 25) i just watch ISS lead by Discovery
dimmer and slightly below ISS. A great space mechanic lesson
an orbital body reducing his altitude increased his speed or it's an optical
illusion?

Physics has never been my taste of tea but always nice to watch passing space
things over us and in bonus our seasonal wild white goose and
wild duck and birds migration heading north with their usual sound. (resting
and feeding place about 45mn from here see:
http://www.pbase.com/descar/ornitho). If clear evening sky remain i will try
some photos of the twin moving star

I read that the Z panel needs sun for best operation. I think that
panel gets the best illumination in the dead of the northern winter.
The Spring and Fall full illuminations. The northern summer was the
worst.

The SDR Forum at the Dayton Hamvention is Saturday 11:15 AM to 1:30 PM May
16.

This is the ARRL National convention as well so it should be well attended.

Because of missed emails, etc. (I was left off the email addressees so
I got none of the emails) we are now in a rush. The initial list,
etc. is supposed to be in DARA hands by April 1. This needs to be
dealt with ASAP. I will contact some "you should" directly but I am
soliciting 15-20 minute talks.

I need at least an indiciation of willingness to speak, a few sentence
abstract, and your willingness to be flexible in the timing as Irush
this together.

Thanks

Physics was mine, for a time, but I realized that I preferred coffee over tea,
and switched to computer science... :-)

As an object slows down it enters a lower orbit - there's less centripetal
force pulling it away from the planet. But, in a lower orbit it has less
distance to go around in an orbit, so it ends up completing the orbit sooner
(not faster). From our perspective down here, because we can't see the lower
orbit that it's in, that makes it look like it's going faster.

I am saddened to report that Dave Toth, VE3GYQ, was hospitalized and had
the tender care of a serious neurosurgeon. Dave, being the mild
mannered, tame individual we all know and love, has managed to
extricate himself from the clutches of the hospital and is resting at
home. He will have to undergo some pretty tough medical treatments in a
short time but he is a fighter like almost none of the rest of us can
understand. He is watching BSG, moaning about going to Dayton, had his
son tell me he was going with me and that is that. My plan is to take
him to Dayton to at least the Saturday so he can be at the SDR forum.

Dave is ambulatory, can get on his computer, and I know would love
messages. But he is under absolutely strict orders to rest for now, so
please email only. I've made arrangements to keep up with him via his
son and Dave is absolutely insistent that if he can stand up and walk, I
am taking him to Dayton.

What a HARD HEAD!

We love you Dave, take care.

Bob
