Not one of the best greetings for a potential new satellite operator.
Mark Twain has a nice quote that you should look up.

I don't usually use bandwidth for "welcome" messages, but after reading
this...

Welcome Jack! I personally have found AMSAT membership to be worthwhile.
With or without a Phase III bird I'll continue to support AMSAT as long as I
am active in this aspect of the hobby.

JOIN AMSAT if you are interested in supporting ARISS and its school

JOIN AMSAT and promote satellite knowledge to all kinds of audiences -
ham or not.
JOIN AMSAT and watch your group's eyes widen as you demonstrate
working one of the FM birds with only your handheld radio and better
antenna.
JOIN AMSAT to help support its presence at hamfests and conventions.
JOIN AMSAT and volunteer! There are many tasks and activities that

Just got a couple of images from this pass over FM07il. They were a
little noisy but not bad considering I guess. There were a few that
were to skewed to bad copy. If anyone copied what I sent
I would love an email with a copy attached.

KB1PVH was a nice fire truck
WP4CN ?U or O Nice test pattern.

I ran this call in QRZ and neither show as listed there. The top of
the call was cut off so I don't know if it was a U or a O on the end.
Oh well!

Jack,

Lots of folks answered "why" you should join AMSAT, and I agree with them.
But I believe you asked "how" can you join.

Visit the AMSAT web site. Then go to the "Store" tab and, under product
index, you will find a link to join.

Enjoy!!!

AO-51's handlers are doing a very nice job of presenting us with several
different satellite modes. This week it is an opportunity to try Slow Scan
TV. Now it would be very nice if someone from the Slow Scan community would
tell us how to receive the pictures and once we have done that, how do we send
a picture. We only have a week to play with something which is very different
for some of us, so let us not waste any time.

My favourite technique with SSTV is to record the transmission on
minidisc or on the laptop, and then decode it later. That way, if the
skew setting is badly off (which happens) you haven't lost it - just
skip back and try again.

I use QSSTV on Linux for decoding SSTV images. I had some pretty
reasonable success with decoding the images from Richard Garriott's trip
aboard the ISS - http://www.gjcp.net/space/

Isn't there a software program that automatically tunes two rigs so that each
remains on a sat's uplink and downlink frequencies during a pass and corrects
for doppler?

I recall reading about such a program but now can't find it.

Thanks,

Try downloading "MMSSTV" and install it.

Plug a patch cord from your earphone jack of the radio to the mike
jack on your PC, and regulate the level with the volume control on the
radio. As I recall, without doing anything else, you should be able to
copy pictures. If there's no satellite and you want to test it, try
listening
to 14.230 on 20 meters. There are quite a few SSTV'ers sending on there
daily.

This thing is VERY easy to use ! Even I figured it out.
And I am NOT a computer geek by any means.

One other note: MMTTY is for RTTY. DIGIPAN is for PSK31.
They all work in the same simple way (for receiving). You'll need
another
patch-cord to do the transmit part!

Hi Bill,

WispDDE will control multiple rigs, as many as you have interfaces for !

I've used it with the Kenwood's TS-711 and TS-811 for V/U and U/V modes.

I now have it controlling my IC-910 and TS-850 for when AO7 is in that
special mode :)

I use WispDDE with Orbitron to do it all.

regards

Tim

Hi John,

I generally have better luck connecting the Data Out port of the rig into the
Line-in on the PC. The Data ports usually have a fixed, and lower level of
output, and are pretty well matched to the Line-in on the PC. The Mike input
on the PC sometimes has a bunch of extra gain, and is easily swamped,
especially from the earphone jack of the rig. My home-brew "rig blaster" is
simply a patch panel with a bunch of switches to tie the right rig's Data jack
to the PC Line-in, and vice versa with Line-out. Works well.

I copied an image from KO6TZ on the last west coast pass of AO-51 today, way
out over the ocean, using this method. The software for my OpenSUSE Linux
system is QSSTV, and if I had things configured correctly before the pass
started, I might have sent one back...

Isn't there a software program that automatically tunes two rigs so that
each remains on a sat's uplink and downlink frequencies during a pass and
corrects for doppler?

I recall reading about such a program but now can't find it.

Thanks,
Bill NZ5N

Hi Bill,

SatPC32 will let you run two different rigs at the same time. This
works well if you use one to TX and another to RX, using SatPC32 ver
12.8

Lately, I have been wanting to simulaneously control 2 radios--both
with TX and RX. So, what I do is run a second copy of an older
version of SatPC32 (ver 12.7). You can install the older version
into a different location and set it up to run only the radio (not
track box). I don't think it's possible to run two copies of 12.8
because of the install/default locations for the data files...
Fortunately, 12.7 keeps the files in the same directory as the
installed program, so you can run as many copies of that as you want!

It takes a bit of work to get 2 copies running and configured
correctly, since you have to configure them separately. But the files
with frequency info, etc. can be copied so they use the same
frequencies etc. It's not too bad, really, given the benefits.

Why would I want to do this? I have two rigs I want to
control...TS-2000X and TS-790A. This lets me hear both AO-51
repeaters at once (or do digital/telemetry on one, voice on the
other), let's me use one for S-band receive, and so on. It's actually
quite handy to mix/match transmitters/receivers.

Mark N8MH
