This is what I think the Cute / CO-65 frequencies are:
CW beacon:
==========
downlink: 437.275
FM Digipeater:
==============
uplink: 1268.603 (!! officially .600, but Japanese HAM reports say +3 KHz !!)
downlink 437.475
Shall we give away a virtual Award to the first station outside Japan
that can digipeat "I did it via Cute" via Cute's digipeater ?
Kind of funny we complain about lack of satellites, whereas we have
a fully loaded 9k6 digipeater flying in space, totally un-explored !!!
(part from 6..8 enthousiastic Japanes stations)

Hello All,
I have just heard AO-7's 70cm beacon. I reckon the frequency to be
435.106MHz. The signal bandwidth was 100Hz and rather weak. I couldn't
determine any modulation.
So, if you find AO-7 in mode A, try the 70cm beacon.

A few notes on the IC-W32A Handy Talkie for satellite work.
I had to "open up" or extend the frequency range of this HT before I could
attempt to work satellites. (If I remember right, it wouldn't transmit
below around 438 MHz as it came.) I made several satellite contacts with
the IC-W32a using a Tri-Pod mounted homemade version of a dual-band Yagi
(3-elements on 2-meters and 5 elements on 70cm). I used my Speaker Mic and
plugged Headphones into the bottom jack. It was truly a challenge, although
some make it sound so easy! With a laptop outside tracking, I was in
"over-drive" making a few successful contacts. I used a number of
"pre-programmed" channels to compensate for Doppler Shift, and that seemed
to work. Because others are not helpful at times to QRP stations, expect a
few failures and be patient. Good luck!!!

A few more pointers:
* Use headphones or an ear-piece,
* make sure the radio is in "semi-duplex",
* leave the main band as the transmit frequency and adjust the other
band for doppler (don't worry about only tuning the higher
frequency just tune the receive side),
* make sure the volume and/or squelch is OFF on the main band -
* work SO-50 before you try AO-51 but don't forget you need a tone
on the TX side for SO-50
* Unless you have a non-US version of the W32A, its should work fine
without any mods
It really is very easy, SO-50 is accessible on the 0.5w setting on a
good pass, keep trying and good luck and post questions if you have any.
I am sure we all look forward to working you!

Report Feb 28, Cute-1.7+APD-II 82 degrees elevation pass.
---------------------------------------------------------
Experiment to activate the Cute 9k6 GMSK digipeater: failed.
Nothing heared on the downlink (437.475)
Also Mike, DK3WN listened in, so RX is not the issue :-)
Must be my uplink set-up therefore.
.. no clue still what is wrong.
Kenwood TS2000X, 10W, 35 elements beam (this set-up works for AO51)
Doppler correction via HRD.
Tried both .600 and .603 uplink freq.
TNC: PK96 external TNC, connected to the TS2000 via ACC2, filter
setting 9k6 in the TS2000X.
HBAUD 9600
U CQ via JQ1YTC
then typing in converse mode ":ALL :test"
This way I 'fired' around 100 packets on 23cm, but I didn't hear anything
back.
Who has a better station or better operating skills :-) ?

Ooops...to clarify (cos' I made a boo-boo!)
* When using headphones or a ear-piece, have the radio in full duplex
* Don't operate the satellites without headphones or an earpiece in
full duplex as you will get horrible feedback (as will everyone
else listening to you)

So the TX and RX are basically commercial HTs mounted in the satellite?
Which means my facetious comment about making a "bent pipe" by taping
two cheap Chinese walkie-talkies together and getting the shuttle crew
to lob it out the window on the way up wasn't totally wide of the mark
then? ;-)

It was a very high pass for me @ the 21:16 pass.
I could hear a tone of some kind and then it would drop off. No tone or

Hello all,
Has anybody in the US successful copied Delfi-C3/DO-64 in the last month?
Since the satellite was configured into its current science mode with
infrequent packets (nearly a month ago), I haven't been able to copy it.
Just trying to determine if it's bad luck or what.
Thanks for your reports.

Hi Marv,
For the last several weeks AO-16 has been in an orbit that prevents its
operation for extended periods. Currently the satellite transmitter won't
stay up for more than a minute or two at a time. We are seeing cooler internal
temps, and this causes the satellite to reset. What you were hearing was me
commanding the PSK transmitter ON and then the satellite shutting itself off
(or resetting itself...) When my schedule permits I try to turn the bird ON
during afternoon/early evening passes over the east coast of the US. I can't
make every day or every pass, but I do what I can. In reality, the bird isn't
staying UP long enough to be much use--and you saw that today.
Sadly it looks like this is the way the bird will be for the next several
years--unless something in the satellite changes (aging, radiation, etc.) for
the better! In all likelihood, it might actually get worse.
To all users: If you hear the satellite "humming", it is in the digital mode.
Please do not transmit to the satellite while it is in the digital mode.
Rather, wait for the humming to go away and listen for the characteristic
carrier, which means that the bird is in "voice mode" and will then support
voice operations.

Just for interest, in science mode DO-64 is not often on over ZL but every
now and then it comes down this way transmitting. Last time was 26 Feb at

Greetings,
The AO-7 70-cm beacon was monitored with very strong signals during the 2009
February 28 22:52-23:14 UTC pass from FM18. The beacon was in a two-state
mode that sounded a bit like RTTY in idle. The shift was about 50-Hz between
the two states. The nominal zero Doppler frequency appeared to be around
435.1056-MHz and was rock-steady through the pass.

Thanks Mark,
You do a great job. It been a while for me to work the bird so I just
wanted to make sure it wasn't something on my end.
Also thanks for the other "good to know" information.
I have been luck tto work A)-16 back in Dec. so I can say I did it is it
where to go away at some time.
It is a great more and I hope they think about using this mode again.
Thanks again for the work you do.

Mark,
I have copied a few hundred blocks of data since they switched modes, but
usually it is off, so I haven't been trying lately. The two times I did
copy something, it has just made a pass over the Netherlands. I am
_guessing_ they either did not switch it off after a TLM run, or it had not
yet timed out, whichever method they use.

Hi!
I saw on the AO-27 web page:
http://www.ao27.org/
that the satellite is transmitting once again. From the schedule
posted on that page, it appears it will be transmitting several
minutes of data on the same passes it would have been on in the
past (for a few minutes over the Northern Hemisphere). Let's
hope all checks out well, so this satellite can return to normal
(for AO-27) operation soon.
73!
