We here at Near Space Sciences would be honored to test fly such a payload.

We ourselves have thought of such a payload for all 20 years of doing
these flights. but never came up with a good set of boards.

As stated we have been doing this for 20 years now, and have 47 flights
with 100% recovery rate under our belts.

What a "carrot" that would be to dangle in front of a university Cubesat
group....

"Here, fly this RF package for free... The only condition is that it
becomes available to the amateur satellite community at large once your
mission objectives are met."

We should have a bunch of these on the shelf, ready to hand out as soon as a
group announces their intent...

George -- I agree completely about having a bunch of these on hand.
Especially if we can first make a few copies, run them in some diverse
environments and just generally kick the tires in a way that most
cubesat projects don't have the opportunity to.

William has provided a means of injecting a CW beacon. I wonder if
'we' could add to this, say, BPSK, which worked so well on Delfi c3,
or an FSK channel.

I don't know about y'all, but I'm still blown away with the idea of a
satellite being the size of the distance between my thumb and pointer
finger, cubed; not even mentioning having a transponder aboard that. It's
really just amazing that something so small, so far away, can actually be
used to make intelligible contacts.

Let's hope that one of the future university launches (or maybe SuitSat2?)
would take advantage of this technology and fly it in their cubesat.

Why could we not approach Google about building and paying for a launch?
They are always wanting to help mankind and looking for ways for people to
stay in touch with each other. What with all the rumors about them one day
becoming an ISP. Would it not be great? You know they got the money for
it.

I can see it now GO-10

Not really.

Quoting from The Satellite Experimenter's Handbook, Second Edition, page 15-
19, about AO-10:

"The first burn went relatively well -- there was a small deviation from the
expected burn duration, which placed the spacecraft perigee somewhat higher
than planned. The second burn could not be accomplished because a slow leak in
the high-pressure helium system during the week the spacecraft was being
reoriented prevented the opening of valves feeding fuel to the thrust
assembly."

The "small deviation" is known to be due to a design error in the simple
digital logic circuit that controlled the burn duration.

On AO-13, the kick motor worked exactly as planned, and the spacecraft
achieved the intended orbit. But that orbit could have been chosen better, as
it turned out. The early re-entry after only 8.5 years was not anticipated,
and probably could have been avoided if we had been smart enough, soon enough.

Nigel...I dont think that is correct...AO-10 had some propulsion issues...13
worked right on the money.

AO-40's "event" is akin to a pilot of a 757 taking off with the gear pins
still in.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the contacts so far. I am new and an getting the hang
of working the various modes and splits. I am curious
if there is a rig control program for the IC-706mkiig that does
the doppler correction for both up and downlink frequencies.

I have been using HRD but I can only get it to control one VFO
at a time. I have tried both the new beta version and the older standard
and I just can't get it to work. I know the 706 is not really a
satellite rig
but I have been using it and my 275H together to make 40 or so contacts
so far.

Now I have come up on the AO-07 and really need both controlled.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Came across this book recently at a local flea market - "Fundamentals of
Astrodynamics". Great book explaining basic 2-body
and N-body equations, classical orbital elements, and orbital transfer
maneuvers. A little history is sprinkled in as well.
Mine is a 1971 edition, but looks like there are still a few available on
Amazon, new, old stock, I guess -

Gets a little deeper than I want to go with some topics, but an interesting
read, none the less.
