Sat-to-sat comms is hard because there's not space for gain antennas.
However, sat to ground to sat would work.

I have my Yaesu 897 interfaced to the computer with a Tigertronix Signalink
USB box.
I use a program to record the receive audio to the computer. I use the
standard Yaesu
Microphone that came with the radio. My only problem is that I am not able to
record
my TX audio.

Is their another interface that would give me the ability to record both my TX
and RX audio.
My other thought is to build an interface box between the Mic and the radio
and then feed
the Mic audio into the computer sound card.

Any suggestions or descriptions of how other people record both TX and RX
audio.

Sebastian,

Why would you get a "free key" for SatPC32?

I paid for mine on the AMSAT website on Thursday morning and the "key"
was e-mailed to me by Martha a couple of hours later!

Are they giving them away now? :-\

I've been thinking about the LEO vs. HEO debate recently and have come to a
question, What is the cost comparison between launching 1 HEO sat vs. a
constellation of LEO sats similar to what iridium has flying? Has this cost
analysis been done? It seems many people just want a communications
resource that is generally available from where they are and allows multiple
simultanious (voice bandwith or wider) users. We seem to spend way too much
time arguing over HEO vs. LEO when the real discussion seems that it should
be how to most effectively provide a communications resource that best
serves the amateur radio community in serving it's purpose as specified in
47CFR97.1 (apologies to the non-US hams on the BB but is not the outline
similar most everywhere for our service) which reads:

Section 97.1

The rules and regulations in this Part are designed to provide an amateur
radio service having a fundamental purpose as expressed in the following
principles:

(a) Recognition and enhancement of the value of the amateur service to the
public as a voluntary noncommercial communication service, particularly with
respect to providing emergency communications.

(b) Continuation and extension of the amateur's proven ability to contribute
to the advancement of the radio art.

(c) Encouragement and improvement of the amateur service through rules which
provide for advancing skills in both the communications and technical phases
of the art.

(d) Expansion of the existing reservoir within the amateur radio service of
trained operators, technicians, and electronics experts.

(e) Continuation and extension of the amateur's unique ability to enhance
international goodwill.
How can we best provide or at least contribute to this goal. What is the
most cost effective option and how can we get there?

You are correct, that was my mistake. There is a list of items you
can get without additional cost to become a member, however to get a
key for SATPC32 the membership fee is more expensive. I stand
corrected.

My three cents. AO-7 is as good as it gets as far a time on satellite and
distance. It is very under used. I have been in many three way QSO's where
we do what we do. We have a fun bunch of "characters" that I enjoy yaking
with. I believe in the concept and the idea that eventually we will have a
HEO. It depends on efforts and support now, not after launch. I can be found
on AO-7 on most passes.

I'd suspect that since he started 'his thread', that he WILL have the
last word. Not that your efforts are without merit, just don't expect
to win (at least not in 'his thread')... No doubt you don't expect him
to behave as rationally and mature as most of the folks on AMSAT-BB.
I rarely engage in the discussions on QRZ and eHam for that simple reason.
Many just like to spout to see their own words in print.

He appears to be holding a minority opinion, as most topics in that
satellite forum are more what might be expected. Hams being helpful to
other hams with questions... That is apparently not enough for some.

I may add a few comments - if the email confirmation from eHam ever
gets here. It won't let me reply until I click a magic link.
Thanks /;^)

well crud...
I finally got the email, and clicked the magic link.
So when I try to reply, first it wanted me to send money...
Then following the instructions, I hit reload - and it says :

"There is a short moratorium before newly registered users may post.
The actual time may vary from a few hours to a day or two while the staff
reviews them. "

Good thing I wasn't needing a gun or anything...
- or had something mean that I really needed to get off my chest.

I'll just hafta wait around for another satellite pass and enjoy my hobby.
Could be worse I guess.

Just to illustrate how insanely expensive GEO/GTO launches are, it's more
like 1 small GEO/GTO package launch= 200 cubesat launches.

I have purchased Endevour Auto Tracker and installed it on my IMac computer.

I am having some difficulity in getting things working.

I wonder if anyone out there in Amsat BB neighborhood has experience with this
setup that can give me some clues to
what I am doing wrong??

I am using the IMac computer, keyspan usb-serial adaptor, Mac Doppler
software, and the Kenwood TS2000x.

Ryan,

Just go to Update Keps and then select the tle-new from the choice of
download. The latest batch will have names like 2009-002A, which is what is
elsewhere called Object A. Going back to the Satellite page, you can then
select it as the source file, define a new group if you wish, and go from
there.
