Hi All,

With the successful launch today of the new cubesats - congratulations to
the teams involved - there is just a very small chance of also hearing
signals from XO53 - SSETI Express!

SSETI Express was launched in November 2005 but, due to a failure within the
power supply system on board, signals were only heard for a few hours.
Investigations made after the launch indicate that it is just possible that
the offending short circuit FET devices may, one day, go open circuit. This
would allow power from the solar panels to again reach the electronics. It
can be assumed that the batteries are pretty useless by now so it would only
be likely to operate when in sunlight.

SSETI Express was on 427.250MHz - the same frequency as is now being used by
PRISM and this is a request that, if by any chance you hear any strange
noises on the frequency to please let me know! In this context, "strange
noises" could be either short bursts of 9k6 data or even some very unusual
"CW like" signals.

Similar things have happened in the past!

many thanks
73

Graham
G3VZV

PS - just in case...here is a more technical description of what might be
heard -
- a sub 1 second burst of AX25 telemetry every 18 seconds.
or
- simple on/off telemetry comprising 16 x 100msec carrier pulses. Either
every 30 seconds or every 2 mins

And if you look cross-eyed at the two images (so that they line up with each
other, but in focus), you can see the buildings in 3-D.

Only slightly off topic - does use for AO-7 Mode A make it close enough?

I'm trying to repair the outer plastic housing of an AEA Isoloop by first
gluing it back together and then possibly reinforcing the areas where it
broke if necessary.

http://picasaweb.google.com/ve4yz.alan/AEA1030IsoLoop#

The 1/4" black plastic housing has no markings to identify the type of
plastic and up to this point has resisted all the glues I have around the
house.

ABS cement
PVC cement
2 part epoxy
Epoxy resin and hardener used for fiberglass
Silicon Marine RTV type
Contact Cement
Glue Gun
Crazy Glue is the closest to working but not fully satisfactory

All these glues will flake off the test surfaces I have tried with more or
less effort.

Any suggestions on what, if anything, will weld these pieces together?

Thanks and

Hi all,

Monitoring new satellites CW beacon during 05:56-06:18 UTC, heard STARS,
KKS-1 and PRISM beacon, Kagayaki still not heard.

PRISM is the earliest and the STARS is the quickest (CW speed), so these
3 sats are easy to identify.

Of the satellites Below

Kagayaki <http://www.sorun.co.jp/kagayaki/top.html>
STARS <http://stars1.eng.kagawa-u.ac.jp/english/index.html>
KKS-1 <http://www.kouku-k.ac.jp/%7Ekks-1/kks-gs-top-e.htm>
PRISM <http://www.space.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/prism/main-e.html>

Do any of them carry a transponder? if not what's to be excited about?

Aloha

Cubesats are a lot of fun for a lot of AMSAT operators. Whether practicing CW
or just tracking the birds there is always some challenge involved; more
challenge
for the students who build and launch them!

I've enjoyed tracking cubesats since I received my ham license. Someday I may
graduate elsewhere but for now I find every new launch an exciting event.

Mahalo to everyone involved with these birds and Aloha to all the hams I have
met
because of cubesats.

While I haven't been active on the satellites in some time (still have
some gear to sell), I have uploaded all of my DXpediton logs from the
1990's to the Logbook of the World: J20BY, 9L1/WD3Q, 6Y5/WD3Q, WD3Q/HI3

I'll eventually transcribe and upload the rest of the satellite logs
(WA6YBT in Kansas, South Dakota and Ohio).

Those were fun times!

Just copied the 1850 UTC pass. Really pounding in! PRISM came in exactly
using the latest Celestrak 2009-002B keps, with only a couple of hundred
Hertz drift. Both MixW and HRD copied it perfectly.

Thanks to all who replied. Dave VE3SAT pointed me at this product

http://www.loctiteproducts.com/products/detail.asp?catid=17&subid=40&plid=66
1

Loctite 2 part Super Glue for ALL PLASTICS and it works where other crazy
glues wouldn't both the liquid and gel types.

For Canadians it is available at Canadian Tire. The packaging looks a
little different than on that link as it is necessarily bilingual
English/French and rather than called "PLASTIC BONDER" is called "SUPER GLUE
- All Plastics" but included the same 2 tubes of activator and glue. It is
a liquid glue and not gel.

What a find as I've had trouble in the past with other repairs on weird and
wonderful plastics or unknown origin.

You can check the site below for progress on this project as I'll post more
images.

Thanks again.
