Interesting following the comments regarding ISS orbital reboost...
Most folks refer to the ISS as being 'late',
when actually they are just listening too early.
Here are some useful links that the group might find interesting.
Hopefully they will raise as many questions as they answer.

The schedule is known ahead of time, it is not a sporadic decision.
Fortunately we can follow along via the daily diary entries.
Daily reports:
http://www.hq.nasa.gov/osf/iss_reports/ (this links to the current entry)
(also has a link to previous reports)
(also has a calendar for future mission event schedules)

I dug around a bit, and found this nice explanation :
http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/feedback/expert/answer/mcc/exp7/08_07_10_23_16.htm
l

- and this description with a picture :
http://science.nasa.gov/ppod/y2003/18apr_reboost.htm

Here is a nice graph from http://www.Heavens-Above.com :
tracking orbital height. http://www.heavens-above.com/IssHeight.aspx

Plenty more links on the ISS home page :
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/main/index.html
- live Mission Audio : http://www.nasa.gov/178952main_Mission_Audio_UP.asx
- attitude tutorial :
http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/station/flash/iss_attitude.html
(this is a really cool lesson in the different flight modes)
- 2009 calendar : http://www.nasa.gov/pdf/296130main_calendar09-100.pdf
(if you can figure out how to print and put it together...)

Enjoy /;^)

Lots of good information on there Alan, thanks. Another site I just
found is http://www.n2yo.com

I just received a telephone call from a ham in El Salvador who heard
me on the ISS. He was using an old Azden 2 meter mobile with a
discone antenna. He asked me about my station since he's very
interested in getting on at least the FM birds for now. He gave me
the link above. I suggested that he pickup a dual band full duplex
HT, with a handheld antenna (Arrow or Elk), as that would probably be
the easiest and most economical way. So hopefully we'll hear YS1MS,
Jose on the sats soon.

Hi there,
There are two really good (around 30 degrees) passes over the UK this
evening, which for me start at about 21:21 and 22:55, as well as one
not-too-bad (15 degrees) one at about 19:45. Even with a fairly QRP
setup I should get in at that.

Does anyone want to arrange a sked? Last time it was pretty quiet until
the ISS was more over Europe, by which time I was struggling to get in.

Gordon

Since this came through the list pretty much 36 hours after I originally
posted, it's safe to ignore it.

The launch of GOSAT and a piggyback satellites were postponed
at January 22 or later as the unseasonable weather.

Hello all, I have posted some more magazines and newsletters on my website.

The URL as before is

http://www.ka9q.net/newsletters.html

Ralph Wallio W0RPK contributed AMSAT Satellite Journal issues 1-7
(Jan-Feb 1985 through Jan-Feb 1986) and I have begun scanning the early
TAPR Packet Status Register newsletters. So far I have issues 1-20,
24-26 and 28. They run from July 1982 through July 1987.

More to come, more to come...

Hi

The students at the University of Louisiana are flying a balloon with a KISS
mode TNC on board. There data stream does not include the CRC error check.
Do you know of any soundcard software that can be configured to copy the
data so they can look at the raw data on their ground station.

Thanks for your help in the past and future

How is their data encoded when it is 'on the wire' - or in this case on
the air? Is it it still just a KISS stream or is it AX25-encapsulated?

If the data is an AX25 stream then Soundmodem should be able to decode
it and so my KISSlogger program (available on request) can log it for
further scrutiny.
