Hi Mike,
I heard the ISS loud and clear a couple of night ago, but it was silent for
me last night at about 10:30pm PST.

I've tried listening to a few passes (as high as 70 degrees) the last 2 days
and heard nothing but silence. I must be doing something wrong. Can the
group confirm I am doing this right for the current cross band repeater?
My Xmit is 145.99 tone 67 hz
My RX is 437.8
My radios, antennas, preamps, and such are fine as I can still work SO-50,
AO-51, and FO-29. What gives?

Tim:
Try Ham Radio Deluxe. By simply hitting the F2 key, you can tune around the
passband at will.
Besides...it's also FREE.

Tim, et al:
After hitting the SEND button, I had a bit of "Buyer's Remorse" as I am sure
we all have done from time to time.
While some of the best things in life may be free, the support that SatPC32
provides the AMSAT program with its financial contributions to the ongoing
programs is key. 100% of the registration fees go to AMSAT, so that we may
continue to use, maintain, and enjoy the satellites.

I have been too busy to try ISS in the last week but just checked my
handy-dandy AMSAT Frequency Guide and note that ISS Cross Band Repeater is:
437.800 UP
145.800 DOWN as always
Is this still correct for today's configuration?
Mike, does you email have a typo on the RX and TX being reversed or are you
really set in that mode?
Or has someone on ISS hit the reverse button :-)
My next pass is in 5 hours and only 4 degrees so can even test this tonight.

Current 25th anniversary special configuration is:
145.99 up w/ 67.0 PL
437.80 down
Should remain in this mode until Jan 17 (except for school contacts and
possibly a few unplanned interruptions).

Right normally its 70cm and 2M down if cross band enabled. But the ISS is
specially configured as I described as part of the anniversary.

Yes! Check out Yahoo Group: amateur-DSN
There may not be any current discussion on Selene but the archives
should have some around the time it originally began orbit.
This group consists of hams and other observers of NASA's and other's
space probes (generally beyond Earth orbit). DSN refers to the Deep
Space Network of tracking stations that track and control/receive
deep space missions. Most observing surrounds the x-band centered on
8415-MHz but also includes the 2200-MHz band. There is no commercial
equipment for 8415 and most equipment and antennas are HB. If
interested in joining their discussion you must register with Yahoo
groups. But you may read their discussions without joining:
http://dir.groups.yahoo.com/group/amateur-DSN/
In the near future (2009), I hope to build a DSN downconverter to
start listening up there with my 16-foot dish.

Wow! Two great passes of AO-7 here tonight in mode B. On the first pass I
had quick QSOs with YV4DYJ, WP4CNU, YV6BFE, and W7LRD, and heard WA4NVM and
N5UXT. Next pass I had a nice longer QSO with K7WIN, and heard N0FJP, AA5PK,
and WB9YIG. The old bird is in fine shape.

Hey Drew,
I missed the second pass, but spent practically all of the first in a CW QSO
with Frank, K9CIS. I'm thrilled that I got my issues here worked out and can
enjoy AO-7. It's very cool to use a straight key to work another station in CW
on a satellite. Talk about mixing the old with the new....

Hi Tim,
There was a school contact last night around midnight PST. The downlink site
was in Santa Rosa, California, (telebridged over to India) and I had a very
clean copy here in CM98 using just a 5/8 wave J-pole up on the roof. The crew
probably had the repeater off by that time, in preparation for the contact.
Congrats on the /AG upgrade!

Hi!
On Saturday, 10 January 2009, I will have an AMSAT table at the
ThunderBird Amateur Radio Club's "Westfest" hamfest in Glendale AZ.
Just like in 2008, this will be an indoor hamfest on the campus of
the Thunderbird School of Global Management. This campus is on the
southeast corner of 59th Avenue and Greenway in Glendale (grid
DM33vo). The hamfest starts at 0700 local time (1400 UTC), and is
officially scheduled to run until 1200 local time. A map showing the
hamfest site is available at:
http://www.w7tbc.org/PDF_File/WestFest/Westfest_side_2.pdf
More information about the hamfest can be found at:
http://www.w7tbc.org/Westfest.html
During the hamfest, I will do satellite demonstrations outside the
building via AO-51 and VO-52 using my callsign WD9EWK. With Drew's
recent announcement about the AO-51 mode change for this weekend
(thanks Drew!), I will be able to show off both the 435.300 MHz and
2401.200 MHz downlinks during the 1429 UTC pass. I will try working
the later AO-51 pass around 1610 UTC, which will be a shallow pass to
the northwest of the hamfest. I plan on trying VO-52 during the 1703
and 1839 UTC passes, with my downlink in the area of 145.915 MHz USB.
I will be happy to send you a QSL card if we make a contact during
my demonstrations. Just e-mail me directly with the QSO information,
and I will drop a card in the mail.
73!
