The last time I rebuilt a rotor, I got the bearing
balls from Small Parts, Inc. They have quite an
assortment of 'stuff' for various mechanical projects.

It's been fun watching it with gpredict for the last 10 days or so (you
need to update the keplers every day). For a long time it trailed
behind the ISS, slightly lower and slightly faster, catching up with ISS
a little bit each day. A few days ago it zoomed ahead of ISS. I
thought this was an error in my keplers, but is evidently part of the
exercise with the first ATV to do a simulated collision avoidance maneuver.
I wonder what the visual range to the Jules Verne is from the ISS, it's
so large that you must be able to spot it from quite a distance onboard
the ISS.
It's definitely worth loading into your favorite satellite tracking program.

What's this guy's story? Is he traveling the whole world on a boat? I
heard him on the AO-51 2m uplink frequency calling /mm into AO-51 about
a month ago, so he must have been in the San Francisco bay (CM87st).
He didn't seem to be able to hear the satellite that evening and I don't
think he was monitoring his uplink, so I wasn't able to contact him.

Actually it was very strong over Annapolis at 2035z when I first
heard about it. In 30 minutes it was down an S unit, by an hour
it was down 12 dB and by another 20 minutes it was gone. This
12 dB change in signal strength in one hour, matched with the
estimated speed of the balloon, could be used to estimate
position. See my attempts at this estimated track based on
signal strength alone on this web page:
http://www.ew.usna.edu/~bruninga/dfing.html
See the balloon's web page:

Lets hope it survives the nights to arrive in Europe in a few
days!

Yeah!!!!
I just made my 1st confirmed QSO with N2BX on AO-51!!
I called CQ a couple of weeks ago and N2BX must have thought I heard him but
I didn't at that time.
I received a card in the mail from him about a week ago and have been trying
to make a QSO with him or email message to set up a sked so I could send one
back.
NOW I CAN!! :-)

All,
Need to replace the PC in the shack and would like to find something
that's RFI-free out of the box. I've had terrible luck with desktop
PC's, but the last two laptops (Toshiba) were very quiet.
I'm leaning towards something in the small-PC catagory with an LCD
monitor. Sound card and multiple USB ports are a must. Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated.

A group of us just watched the ISS make a spectacular
pass from 5*51'N, 147*57'W on the deck of the Sea
Launch Commander. It was a bit to the East of us, and
we watched it come up over the horizon, and disappear
into eclipse. Several of the people had worked on the
ISS before they transferred here, and they really had
big smiles. Big, bright, beautiful, and really moving!

Hi Tony,
You are probably going to have to pick up something and try it out.
Everything now is FCC-B certified ("home and office use"), but there can still
be problems. My nice new LCD monitor (LG Flatron wide) puts out a nice birdie
on HF that lines up nicely with the AMSAT Net on 14.828 Sunday mornings. The
notch filter takes it out, but it's still annoying. My homebuilt desktop PC,
however, is totally quiet (RF-wise, if not at audio frequencies...).
Good luck,
Greg KO6TH

Actually my desktop is pretty quiet. I found that when I got rid of my
conventional CRT monitor and went to LCD that things were much better. It
was my monitor making most of the the racket.

Yes..its very strange to see this question here this AM since just last
nite I found out how bad my two CRT monitors are aon HF. My dell laptop
seems fine. Since I am about to begin building up some SDR hardware,
I'm looking for any solutions other than having to buy an LCD panel.
I plan to use the SDR for a base for up/down converting into U/V
