I was trying to work AO-27 this afternoon.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought the IC2720H would operate in "Full Duplex",
i.e. being able to transmit on one band while simultaneously receiving on
the other. I had my left band set on the uplink of 145.850 and the right
band set to the downlink of 436.795 (adjusting for doppler). I was able to
hear the downlink just fine. When I tried to transmit on the left band (set
as the main band) the audio on the right band would mute. Thus, I was unable
to hear if I was hitting the satellite. I have the sub-band mute feature set
to off.
Is there anyone in the group that uses this radio that could help me out?

Thanks,

Kent

Although I do not know real meaning of "rippa" which Andrew wrote,
just for your information from another point of view.

"rippa" or "Rippa" is very common word in Japanese.

This word is used like "He is rippa", that means "He is great (man)"
on the business or human life.

I wish the KiwiSAT will be "Rippa na Satellite" (Great successful
satellite)

Hi Ken, W7KKE

The balun across each folded dipole is made with 50 ohm RG-303 teflon
insulated coax cable, velocity factor 0.694

The phasing coupling harness is made with two matching lines of 75 ohm
RG-302 teflon insulated coax cable, velocity factor 0.694

The polarity switcher is a relay Guardian Electric WJ MFG Corp 1365 series
12 V dc A410-364385-00

Due of the lenght of relay the lenght of coax RG-302 going from relay to the
50 ohm unbalance feed is critical to be 1/4 electrical wave long beginning
from the folded dipole so that use only 75 ohm RG-302 or any other type
of 75 ohm teflon insulated coax with the same lenght as the original one.

For water protection it is necessary to enclose the PCB and relay into an
additional plastic box and if anyone is interested on it I can send a set of
pics showing my own installation.

I saw the ISS pass from North west to South east this morning about 6:00 am
local
At 2 miles high and with a snowy winter I have missed any possibility of
viewing it with the old eyes. Today was different.
It was a beautiful site and so bright- traveling very fast about a 85 degree
pass.

Rick I just mentioned you this week here on the BB... did you see
that? Someone asked about how to find AMSAT folks in the Colorado
Front Range...

We all miss your Colorado AMSAT Net! Looking forward to hearing the
net on the air again someday...

Glad to see you're still working the sats, even if it's just eyeball
QSO's with them! (GRIN)

I've used my IC-2720 to crossband through ISS, transmitting on the
right band on 437.800 and receiving VHF on the left band on 145.800
without problem, but haven't tried the reverse like you are trying.
Have you tried swapping the bands to see if the problem continues?

Does the radio mute the audio or is the UHF receiver blocked by the
transmitter's third harmonic?

Hello,

I've got a KR-500 and G500a rotor that need a good servicing. I've found a
lot of great info in the archives that will help me, but still have a few
questions..

I've read that the original bearings were steel, and begin to rust almost
immediately after installation. Can anyone suggest a better quality bearing,
and perhaps a source and part number?

I've also read that the bearing cages are subject to failure, and some folks
prefer to ditch them altogether.

I'm also curious if anyone has any suggestions to optimize my old KLM
crossed yagis?
I use a KLM 2m14c and 43518c, and they seem to work fairly well, but are not
exactly
top performers. I've never opened the polarization switcher units on either
antenna, but suppose I might want to clean the relay contacts?

Since my tower must be tilted over to service the rotator and antennas, I'd
like to get several years of service out of this gear.

Thank you for any help.

73,

Kyle

Jim, that's a good price for a very good radio...I've had mine for
several years, compared it with the two other popular brands, and it
surpassed them both after testing in all modes, with both HEO's and
LEO's...using immediate coax switching to compare performance...
