Thanks to all that replied. I guess I'll look for a magnetic clasp to put on

due to mechanical problem with the boat, we are stuck
in trujillo, grid ek66, and will not arrive at swan
island until monday. will be operating on hf and the
sats tonite and saturday, we may also break out the 2m
yagi and amp for a little eme and ms, but it would be
difficult to unpack and repack. will be on so50 at
0400z friday evening.

There are a number of folks who have been active on the birds in the
past, and are still interested... some with working stations, others
not, along the Front Range, Dave. They're not very "organized" right
now, though -- because...

The Colorado AMSAT Net has been off-air for a while now, in need of
someone to pick it back up and give it some TLC. The net's "owner"
John N0VSE with help from KB0VBZ ran it for many years on the Colorado
Repeater Association's linked repeaters, every single Wednesday night
at 8PM for well over a decade. But John's work and home life schedule
currently does not allow him to be around at 8PM on Wednesday nights,
their Net "slot" for years on the system... and no one else has
stepped up to be "the voice of Colorado AMSAT Net". I'm sure John
would "hand the reins over" to anyone willing to pick it up and do it.

Colorado Front Range AMSAT activity probably needs a couple of
"champions" to work on it (I'm already over-committed to various other
things, and don't work the birds much really -- I stay more in touch
with Satellite activity because many people cross over from Satellite
to terrestrial weak-signal work at VHF and above, which is one of my
passions) and breathe some new life back into it.

The Net time is open, if some folks want to pick it up. The linked
repeater system also has EchoIRLP on it, so anyone could participate
or help run it from just about anywhere... anywhere there's an IRLP or
EchoLink setup... including a laptop.

There are some brilliant but very busy AMSAT folks down near you...
folks who've helped build birds for AMSAT, write code, test systems,
etc. Hard folks to get ahold of though, much in demand in the "real
world" engineering roles they fill.

No, the title is *NOT* a grammatical error, it's an exclamation of
exasperation by the white rabbit in Lewis Carrol's Alice In Wonderland.

Congratulations are extended to 9M6YBG for working JH7PKU, JA1BCL, JR3KQJ and
JA3DJX with the transponder OFF - (according to his report).

"Extra" points for not noticing and correcting the mistake after the first
day.

Ditto to IK1RAN, also for working UT1FG with the transponder OFF ... but
credit for changing it to ON and YT1FG ... even if he did leave both entries
on the same pass.

Did somebody mention incorrect data would be generated?.

Bah. Still no one making anything for 222 and only Kenwood with
current 1.2 GHz product... etc.

Standard grumble.

Hey Icom, Yaesu, Kenwood, etc... the FT-736R's are starting to get
long in the tooth... and this mess of transverters, while I love
supporting the kind folks at DEMI, is an utter mess mobile and in the
shack.

Can anyone say "band modules" at some manufacturer again someday with
current features like DSP IF filtering, please? Pretty please? With
sugar on top?

CQ does *NOT* belong in the QSO pane of the AO-7 log. That pane is for
'actual' QSO's ... 'CQ' might be valid in the COMMENTS field though I doubt if
anyone is interested that somebody called CQ.

The following "instruction" is in fact on the same page as the log entry page
but here seems to be difficulty with English speaking stations *NOT
understanding the (quote) "If you need to change an entry you have made, click
on the magnifying glass to review the record ,then click the update link
(unquote).

Presumably, after several requests on the bb's for a little more dilligence in
filling out the log it's quite likely that it's being done deliberately, which
is about on par with the VFO swisher intelligence
(or should one say, lack of).

It has been suggested that these stations might not read the bb's ...
point taken - but surely they have eyes? ... and can read their own entries?
... (as well as the sentence at the top of the page).

There is *ALWAYS* an excuse for human error ... but the same error
consistently ... well ... you know as well as everyone else ...

As I mentioned previously, regarding 'statistics' - if they're not collated
correctly, the results will be incorrect ... in that case, what is the point
in filling out the log in the first place ??.

Pardon me for trying to preserve a very useful resource.

But there are no satellites on 222 and only little ol' USA has that band.
It's a broadcast band with all your favorite music stations in Europe.

I think what you meant to say is... "only little old ITU Region 2 has
that band". Canada, Mexico... etc...

Yeah, yeah... so they can build modules for the bands you guys have
that WE don't, too. (GRIN)

I guess so but I would suspect that the USA has the majority of the
amateurs in Region 2.
I suppose my gripe is that too many Americans appear to believe that the
USA is the centre of the universe and the rest of the world should cater
for their needs.
If there really is demand for a VHF/UHF multimode satellite capable
radio with 220 and 1296 then there are several American manufacturers
(TenTec, Elecraft for example) perfectly capable of the task. They
obviously don't see it as a viable product.

Band modules are a great idea.
It's a pity more rigs don't come with bays for plug in transverters but
it leads to a larger chassis that many wouldn't need or be prepared to
pay for.
Tektronix have made 'scopes for centuries with plug in modules so it's
hardly a new idea. The Ft-736 had transverters but it needs to be a
front panel plug in to allow for easy selection of facilities.

The #1 point I make at hamfests are:
1) You dont need special antennas
2) You dont need elevation rotatros
3) You dont need tracking software
4) Just operate from your mobile FM or APRS rig anytime you are commuting or
otherwise in the car.

AO51 sked repeats every 5 days, and GO-32 every 9 days. A simple table on
your dashboard will give you pass times for months... See
http://www.ew.usna.edu/~bruninga/MobileLEOtracking.html

But there are a few more slides in my general APRS presentation at the end
that also show why elevation is simply not required. In fact, I should cut
them out into an AMSAT presentation just for this purpose.

Sad to say, it may be an idle question. The dual-band antennas are no longer
active items in the catalog. Looks like they're concentrating exclusively on
higher-gain single-band yagis, as far as the amateur market is concerned.
