Hello everyone,
I found an interesting tool for those who publish technical articles
such as Symposium Papers and AMSAT Journal articles. (hint)
A review by the University of Wisconsin reads, "Created through the
collaborative efforts of the American Mathematical Society, Design
Science, Inc., and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics,
MathJax is the best source for visually displaying math online."
Demos of features and samples of various mathematical expressions and
equations and downloading of the free JavaScript-based engine is at:
http://www.mathjax.org/
You can even copy/paste your equations and math into Word without
finding the special fonts much less figuring out how to make them
work.
Looking forward to your articles!

Hi Folks,
FUNcube/AO-73 is now in continuous transponder mode with low power
beacon, as at approx 20:24 UTC. Change back to Auto eclipse mode planned
for
Sunday PM UTC.

Bob,
Some QRO CW station was hammering the transponder, forcing the mode change.

I have a theory, and it's just a theory based on my time managing AO-51, and
looking at several of the older available publications that describe the
satellite.
AO-7 is barrel shaped, with solar panels around the outside of the barrel
(really an octagonal column shape). The top and bottom ends do not have
solar cells or panels. (AO-51 had panels on each Z end, but only half the
number of cells as the sides.) AO-7 is also magnetically stabilized, where
the bottom flat end and the VHF/UHF antenna array of the satellite points
towards magnetic north when in vicinity of the north magnetic pole (Northern
Canada).
If you look at the position of the sun, AO-7 and north magnetic polar during
most of the reported failures, the satellite is in a position where the sun
is shining down on the top, and only partially illuminating the panels on
the side, and at a very low (poor) angle. In this attitude, the power
generated drops, and the reset occurs, especially in the presence of strong
user signals.
There are other factors, including just the ageing of the solar cells
leading to a reduction in power generated, precession of the orbit, and
probably others.
Just food for thought.

Thanks Glenn- I was on ssb when it just stopped. I did not know about this
forcing the mode change thing. So if too many station try to access the sat
it will just switch? I had a sked with G4DOL earlier today. Did not make it
but the satellite sounded good. Looking into JT65 EME.

It was in mode B for the pass at 0020z.
Low for me, 8 degrees maximum which is about the best I can do to the east.
I could copy my cw returns but not SSB.
I did not hear any other stations.

I have several ways to do it.
I have one of the old Hamtronix R139 crystal controlled receivers I
built from a "kit".
It wasn't what I'd really call a kit, more like a box of parts with some
instructions. It works fine once you get it operating.
I also have an old Radio Shack scanner I "converted" by pulling out the
IF filter and replacing it with a fixed capacitor. It also works "OK",
and considering I have about $5 in it, it's winner in the
"Bang-for-the-buck" category.
And lastly, I have several of the USB "dongles", including both versions
of the FunCube dongle.
They all work fine using an M2 2 Meter eggbeater with an SSB Electronic
2 Meter preamp mounted at 20'.
Yes, I know I'm using the antenna and preamp way "out of band", but it
doesn't seem to hurt. I get solid copy from when the APT birds are above
10*, and that's plenty good for me.

As an experiment, I used a 2m J-pole, AMSAT/ARRL preamp, and FUNcube dongle
to get "acceptable"
reception. It was just a quick test, so I did not pursue the issue further.
