Good morning,

I just found out that a local club is setting up a demo station at the
DC Mini Maker Faire at Yards Park on the Anacostia River waterfront in
Washington, DC (FM18lu) on Sunday, June 8th. As this location is under
a mile from my apartment and weather is supposed to be great, I plan
to bring my portable satellite station and conduct demos on the
following passes:

SO-50 - 1457Z-1510Z
AO-73 - 1535Z-1548Z
SO-50 - 1638Z-1650Z
AO-73 - 1713Z-1722Z (10 deg max - depends on our surroundings)
AO-7 - 1948Z-2008Z (Hopefully it comes up and stays in Mode B)

73,

Paul Stoetzer, N8HM

Hi Bob,

The question raised by you and others reminded me of a simple little
program I wrote a couple of years ago and never released. Ashamed to say
that I gave into PITA when I could not figure out the link between a Group
and its associated tle data file (perhaps there is no external link). The
program seems to work but was abandoned when I gave up and decided to write
my own tracker. I am sure there are many other similar programs out there
but if you do not have one this might help. Please keep your computer on
the desk and far away from the window.

If you try this program and it works for you contact me. If you have
problems with it contact Bob :-)

Dear radio amateurs,

The LituanicaSAT-1 transponder is currently on and should remain so.
General rule to find out if the transponder is working at the moment is
following: if you can hear CW FM beacon on 437.275 MHz it means that
transponder is off, if you cannot hear it - transponder is on.

All stations, please QRP!!!! From everything I've read about the
behavior and history of the satellite and heard from other operators
monitoring these passes, stations running excessive uplink power are
responsible for the recent mode jumping.

There are AMSAT demonstrations scheduled this weekend that are
relying, in part, on AO-7 being in Mode B. Please keep your uplink
power to no more than 100W ERP. If you wish to calculate your ERP,
please consult this page: http://www.csgnetwork.com/antennaecalc.html

If you cannot hear your own signals with 100W ERP, please QRT and make
improvements to your receive setup.

Thank you,

Paul Stoetzer, N8HM

  Hi Folks,

FUNcube/AO-73 is now in continuous transponder mode with low power
beacon, as at APPROX 22:37 UTC. Change back to Auto eclipse mode planned
for
 Sunday PM UTC.

  Enjoy the transponder

I have been operating W1AW /5 this is Joe N5JF in southeast Louisiana AO-7
turned off while I was operating yesterday and today I don't own an
amplifier and I've only ran under 25 Watts with the TS 2000. I would think
the idea of theQRP is a good one

Here's another calculator which takes feedline loss into consideration:

The ERP Blues by W5PFG

They tell me I'm runnin' too much power
By golly why did AO-7 switch on me this hour?

If I turn the rig's power dial down real low
I reckon the signal still has a place to go.

Between feedline attenuation and antenna gain
My ERP still gives enough cause for people to complain.

I've got the E--R--P blues
FM'n the linear birds all day and night 'till I blow a fuse.

Love it. Record it.

Is 100 watt ERP good for A0 7?

I just had a pass (and worked PD5DJ, thanks!) and I also noted a downward
shift in frequency as I had to select the next downward shifted frequency
earlier than gpredict was showing. Gpredict has the default 436.7950 in
its configuration.

I can't give exact numbers as I was busy trying to hear/make a contact but
there is some downward shift.
