I have experienced some desense on the past two passes of FO-29, so
after this pass, I checked all the connectors in my system.
Turns out one of the elements of my Elk antenna was very slightly
loose. Tightened it up and I don't hear any hash at all on my 435 MHz
receive.
It doesn't take much to throw everything out of whack!

Michael,
I also miss the HEO days, and have no interest in juggling multiple
radios and antennas in the dark in the rain, simply to scream my
callsign and gridsquare into the pileup and consider it an achievement
if I can copy someone else doing the same. I don't suppose we will ever
see another HEO hamsat, unless someone with real money gets bitten by
the bug. I assure you, if I had a spare 10 megabux laying around, I'd
pay for a launch... but I don't and so I can't.
I like to ragchew. Even on HF, I like to talk to people around the
world, to find out what type of car they drive, what their dog is
called, what is their favourite beer, etc. I've been ridiculed for
saying that I want to ragchew rather than simply exchange grids.
Now, some people actually like waving a broomstick beam around, and some
people are thrilled to have worked X-hundred gridsquares with people who
they know nothing about. More power to them! But for me, these things
are not exciting nor fulfilling. I want to sit in the comfort of my
shack, and ragchew. And I certainly think I deserve as much
consideration as the grid-chaser with the handheld beam.
Fortunately, we seem to be getting more SSB capable equipment going
aloft, with more useable bandwidth. So I'm even considering the
expenditure of some hard-earned gelt to put a satellite station on the
air. As soon as I am comfortable spending the money.
As for hamfest demos, I have no problem with a show of operating with
absolute basic gear, like the HTs and handheld beams. It seems to me,
however, that a demo of a PRACTICAL minimalist station might also be in
order. (I don't consider all that juggling to be practical, other than
for proving a point.) A modest multiband radio of some sort, a small,
affordable rotator perhaps controlled via bluetooth, from an android
phone or tablet (which also does orbit prediction/tracking), and an
antenna designed for satellite work, but with less than 22 elements on V
and 40 on U. Some of this equipment may still be awaiting development.
And if we are never again going to get a HEO satellite in space with a
visible window of several hours, then we need a lot of LEOs instead, so
I can switch from bird to bird and continue ragchewing!
I'll probably get slagged off for making some of these remarks, so I may
as well get hung for a sheep as for a lamb: I don't know why people
refer to certain satellites as amateur satellites when all they do is
send telemetry in the ham band(s). As far as I'm concerned, if you
can't have a QSO through it, it isn't an amateur satellite. If you
don't require a ham license to use it, then it isn't one of ours!
Regards to all,

Tim; I believe there are two pots each for the azimuth and elevation
meter adjustments. One pair are for the internal meters, the other pair
for 0-5V to be used by the TrakBox (or similar) ADC. Make sure you
turned the correct pair. However first I would make sure the internal
7806 voltage regulator is producing 6 volts and does not oscillate or
have noise on it. Dig out a DVM and scope to make sure. Those
regulators, if not properly bypassed with a capacitor may oscillate.

Let your fingers do the walking. Good list etiquette states before asking a
question, that a search of the archives be done.
In this case, I wouldn't touch this one with a large fiberglass pole.
We're not taking about buying a pack of ciggies here.. This stuff costs
millions..

Yes, Dear Andrew,
Create a new 'Note pad' file in the TLE folder and name it whatever way you
want. Copy TLE's from different files (groups) of interest and choice and
paste in the new file.

In light of the bi-monthly HEO discussions that pop up here I figured I'd
share some info that many non-US aerospace industry people may not realize.
The International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) is a set of laws that
those of us in the United States must adhere to, even as volunteers for
AMSAT. I just finished up yet another refresher course from my employer so
this is fresh on the mind.
This email is my own and I don't claim to be 100% to the book accurate,
this is my understanding of it.
Some notes on what it means:
- *Negligence is NOT a waiver for a violation*
- just because you didn't realize you violated it, doesn't mean you
won't/can't be prosecuted
- *Simply inquiring about ITAR related subjects can be a violation*
- If I called a company in Germany about their product I'd like to
use on Fox-1 but need a small modification to the design and suggest the
modification to their product so it works with my design... I could have
violated ITAR.
*Individual Criminal Violation*
- Up to $1,000,000 fine *per violation*, 10 years in prison, or both.
*Individual Civil Violation*
- Up to $500,000 fine *per violation*
Those are the big hitters so-to-speak. They are also some of the main
reasons we cannot team up with other AMSAT groups to work on projects
together. Plain and simple. Heck, if I was conversing with some of the
Funcube volunteers and helped them with one of their designs via email,
even simple schematic review to help them I could be violating ITAR. So
those of us here volunteering for Fox-1 do our best to operate with these
rules in place and watch the other groups do their own thing.
*Non- ITAR....Launches*
I work in the launch industry and have quickly realized that the commercial
rocket industry is filled with companies who's satellites cost upwards of
$0.5 to $1 billion each.* To them, a $100 million launch is pocket money as
long as its reliability is high*. Until we see reusable rockets this will
be the playing field in which every AMSAT group in the world has to abide
by. Therefore, cubesats are the ticket into orbit*. On the notion of demo
launches for new rockets such as ones obtained my AMSAT for AO-40... Launch
integrators no longer have trouble finding payloads for them*. There are
more than enough university small sats and cubesats willing to dish out
$100,000+ if not a few million for a ride. Why would an integrator pass up
the opportunity to reclaim a few million $ on the test launch with people
throwing money at them?!
Again all thoughts are my own and would like to state that just because
some people express opinions on this list doesn't mean they are the
opinions/direction of AMSAT. Several posts on here lately have generalized
one or two peoples responses as the direction of AMSAT-NA which is very
much not the case.

Hi all!
What tools are available to work with TLE files? I'm looking for a tool
that takes multiple files with TLE sets in them, and outputs at least one
file with a custom set of TLE's.

No, your favorite file (group) needs to be updated manually, every time.
