I'm playing around with SATPC32 and its CAT interface to automatically tune
the transmitter to the correct frequency depending on receiver's frequency.

After some initial trouble it's working reliably, but I don't see any way to
fix the RX frequency so that it only changes the TX QRG. When I enable CAT
it changes both QRGs RX and TX.

It's cumbersome when making a QSO with a station which fixes his downlink
frequency and SATPC32 is constantly retuning the receiver.

Is there a way to configure SATPC32 so that it only changes TX QRG to
compensate Doppler according to a fixed RX frequency?

My current 'main' PC is about 10 years old now, and is getting slow

(Medion Desktop, 10 yr old P4/3 GHz/2.5 GB with Win XP).

I would like to have your inputs on what the next one should be.

For all kinds of reasons, I want to keep Windows as the O/S.

Plus I assume I will slowly upgrade from 2 to 3 monitors.

Taking into account the future will bring

- more SDR

- more Spectran/Spectrum/WSJT like SW

- more need to run multiple programs simultanious

Should I go for an i3, i5 or i7 processor?

What is the best way to still have (via USB?) serial connectors?

Any other topics to consider?

Just in case, hoping for some good tips/suggestions;

IT topic 1: Funcube-1 Warehouse
When I go to https://warehouse.funcube.org.uk/ranking.html?satelliteId=2
on my Nexus 7 tablet (Android 4.4) I get the explicit warning that this is
unsafe.
No other website gives this message. I knows it's an https site, but still.
Any thoughts ?
(ps: I just clock continue and it's all fine, but it still feels
uncomfortable)

IT topic 2: Triton-1
http://www.isispace.nl/HAM/
I have Bitdefender Internet Security as spam/virus/.. software on all my PCs
here.
Never I have seen it blocking a website.
But: . this Triton website is immediately flagged as unsafe and blocked: so
I did not go in.
Any thoughts ?

IT topic 3: AMSAT Email
For the past 3..4 weeks my ISP blocks amsat, so pa3guo @ amsat.org does not
reach me.
Best way to contact me is via pa3guo @ upcmail.nl.
.. Initially I thought it was my ISP, then I suspected AMSAT, and now I
don't know anymore, but I hear more people in the Netherlands have this
issue, also people with a different ISP, while other people with the same
ISP can (!) use amsat.org without problems. It seems to be a sticky problem.

Alan, I have owned the 440 one for several years. Very well made. A sealed
unit. Can't tx through them but as I recall, they make a version that will
handle 5-10w of tx. I never noticed any better performance than my Elk on a
rotor. They would be very conducive to mounting on a car/truck roof if you
are into that (or looking for a quick divorce!) I have the 440 one up as a
rx only for a separate radio.

Hi,

I was looking for something on QFHs, and found an interesting set of
antennas.

http://preview.tinyurl.com/ougah8b

They donated an antenna to the AMSAT Symposium 2-3 years ago, but I have
never heard one in use that I know of. Anybody use them, or know someone
who has?

With all the new activity, has anyone tried the new and improved HRD Sat

Supposedly, there have been some improvements to the satellite portion of
the suite.

Improvements?

I have used it in the past, but it wasn't a great program to use with
my

Do you now what the improvements are?

At the time we had SO-67, AO-27, AO-51, and SO-50 available, I owned
one of those antennas. I probably made somewhere in the vicinity of
250 contacts with it from my car.

For reception of all those birds, I would rate them as follows:
AO-51 - Worked modestly without preamp, excellent with preamp, even in motion
SO-67 - Almost as good as AO-51, even in motion
AO-27 - Didn't work very well unless I was completely stationary, even
with preamp
SO-50 - Barely usable unless I was completely stationary and it was
the *right* pass

I wasn't active on the linear birds at the time but I suspect it would
work a lot better for FO-29 than any of the FM's. I sold it before I
added full duplex SSB to my mobile station.

If you are looking for something mobile/portable, there are much more
cost effective solutions with similar or better performance. I have
experimented with a number of antenna combinations over the past three
years.

If you're dead set on a fixed omni, it is hard to beat a 19" whip
combined with a receive preamplifier. There are pro's/con's to it.
Personally, I almost always use a vertical for mode J uplink mobile
and a 3-element yagi w/preamp for downlink. For mode B, I transmit
into a dual-band vertical on the trunk lid and listen on a 2m Arrow or
simply use the whole Arrow out of the window. (it can be done, albeit
peculiarly)

Please tell us the application for which you are looking into using
the antenna...Mobile in motion? Fixed portable ops from car?

I do not.
My question today is posed to try and get some unbiased factual input from
someone that has tried the new version. Old prejudices, old opinions or
conjecture are not of much use. I asked the new owner about any changes but
he dodged the question other than to say they added the 9100. I would just
like to report back to him current experience and factual input.
Any input appreciated

Hi

We chose to use https on the funcube warehouse to protect login
registration info. It turns out that the certificate provider we use does
not fully honour the protocol and does not send the organisation 'O' code.

We are aware of the problem and are going to revert back to http and remove
login registration requirement.

This will also allow the map to work on all browsers.

We will still require that users of the dashboard enter their site info.
Email validation will still take place.

Clayton,

Yesterday I had 25 years of antennas destroyed, including the tower, and am
toying with seeing what
can be done with omnis rather than rebuilding what was essentially a P3
station. Fortunately the
preamps survived. An array of multiple antennas with selectable
polarization would be interesting.
It almost always made a difference with beams, sometimes a dramatic one.
Lots of time between now and
Dayton to ponder. :)

Hi
We chose to use https on the funcube warehouse to protect login registration
info. It turns out that the certificate provider we use does not fully
honour the protocol and does not send the organisation 'O' code.
We are aware of the problem and are going to revert back to http and remove
login registration requirement.
This will also allow the map to work on all browsers.
We will still require that users of the dashboard enter their site info.
Email validation will still take place.

Just in case, hoping for some good tips/suggestions;
