Alan,

Are you suggesting that SATPC32 cannot be updated with the various 'objects'
that keep popping up, For example, the Funcube web site currently says they
believe that AO73 is actually object 2013-066AE. Can that object be entered
and selected in SATPC? (I suspect that these minor diffs between what is
labeled as AO73 vs. 2013-066AE don't really make any practical difference
when using SatPC32 to work the bird)

Pls share your thoughts

73, Ted

Les,

Remember that the Keps are provided from CelesTrak. SatPC32 does not
control which source file contains a particular satellite. New satellites
normally move over to the regular categories in about
30 days.

You can find a discussion of adding satellites to SatPC32 and NfW here:

Ted,

Please read previous postings by Erich and others on SatPC32 and review the
link that Alan provided. It is all there.

SatPC32 does what you tell it to do. Nothing more and certainly nothing
less.

To answer your question, yes SatPC32 an be updated.

Ted,

Nothing of the sort!! You said: "I'd like to keep it within the group of
satellites that are in the
"amateur.txt" Kep file if possible." It isn't possible right now, since
AO-73 is still in the
tel-new.txt file:

>>Les,

I usually copy the keps I want from the tle-new file and paste them into
the amateur keps file. The only problem with doing it that way is that you
will have to manually add it every time you update your keps.

>>Dave-KB1PVH

Other than that, you will need to set it up using the tle-new.txt source
files until it is eventually
moved over to the amateur.txt. I have a group I call "New" for such
satellites, though most people
use the existing Diverse category.

73s,

Alan

Does anyone have plans to be active on the satellites as W1AW/X? First up
is W1AW/4 in North Carolina and W1AW/8 in West Virginia for the week of
January 1st.

Contact your state/territory/district's hosts and get W1AW portable
operations on the birds for this year long event!

I'll be activating W1AW/3 in the District of Columbia on the birds during
the week of July 2nd and I'll be posting detailed operating plans as that
week approaches.

I've got an Alliance U-1xx (not sure which, I thought it was labeled,
but I cannot find it). Reading an online manual says if the light stays
on after rotating, the rotor and control box should be re-synced and to
follow the instructions on the bottom of the control box. I don't have
those instructions. Does anyone know how to re-sync this rotor?

Thanks,

Here's the procedure for the U-100. Should be the same for the U-110:

If the light in the control remains on after the "Red Pointer" stops, push
the button on the bottom of the control until "Red
Pointer" lines up with "Knob Pointer" and light goes out.

Okay, so here is what I do to help with Keps and SatPC32:

First, get a Space Track account
https://www.space-track.org/auth/login

Second, get TLE Retriever 3 working manually.
http://www.celestrak.com/SpaceTrack/TLERetriever3Help.asp

Then, use a batch file like this one to combine numerous files into one--and
copy to the correct location in SatPC32. You can select amateur3.txt as the
source for keps, and the new birds, cubesats, etc. are all in one big file.

I call it updatekeps.bat and have Windows run every nite in the wee hours of
the morning as a scheduled event. You can also run the .bat file manually

Edit paths/folders/usernames to match your system!!!!

Thanks Mark,

you point out a very good point. Every person that wants to work the sats
has to do a little "homework". It is not difficult to read through online
help and software menu functions. The same is true for your radio. Browsing
the Amsat BB archives for previous Q&As is also a good thing. This is not
rocket science but it is also not just plug and play.
