Actually, the line I have been using in InstantTrack since forever
would be the 'timezone = CST6CDT' reference... And it has worked well.

Unfortunately our local 'time-lords' have determined that the
general public would be better off if they changed the schedule by
which we switch into and outof this accursed "Daylight Saving" mode...

So now we have to 'force' InstantTrack to begin considering our PC
clocks to have "Daylight Savings Time" a week or so early. And then
'unforce' it later than usual. The automatic switching into and outof
Daylight Saving TZ adjustment now needs to be done manually.

Thanks /;^)

You can generate custom Windows time zones with a Mictosoft utily TZEDIT.EXE
It's supposedly downloadable from their web site as part of the resource
kit for your OS.

It looks like a go for the HQ6A expedition this
weekend. The 6m and 2m gear has arrived safely in
Honduras, so let's hope for favorable propogation. I
arrive in San Pedro Sula, EK65, on Thursday afternoon.
At the very least, I hope to make some satellite
contacts from there on Thursday evening and Friday
morning. On Friday, we go by land to Trujillo, EK75,
then 23 hours by boat, leaving Saturday morning,
through grid EK76, and arriving at our destination,
Big Swan Island, EK87, on Sunday morning. Satellite
contacts should be possible from any of these
locations, and I know a major HF operation is planned
from the boat, but since the amps and big antennas are
packed up it seems doubtful any serious EME or meteor
work can be done before we get to the island, maybe if
lucky some 6m E skip with a small antenna.

We will have internet and will post news on reflectors
and DX clusters. Log and other info on our website at
http://www.hondurasdx.com/.

Yup, that is what I used last year to fixup Win2000Pro systems for use
with this 'new' schedule. The XP systems got their fix from auto-updates.

As I mentioned earlier, the PC knows what time it is, and has the correct
zone info. It is InstantTrack that doesn't know the new schedule,
but as we can fix that manually - it is not an issue. I still consider
it a blessing that we got v1.5 to handle the infamous Y2K problem.

Thanks to Paul for the pointer to DosBox.com ... hadn't heard of that.
I had assumed that the other fellow's reference was to a "DOS" box (PC).
Looks like it's worth a shot. (May even have to try QuikTrack again.)

Bob,

I am not aware of a dual band circular antenna made by anyone. I do
own a dual band antenna Gulf Alpha used to make, but it works as a linear
antenna on each band like the 'Arrow' antenna.

The Gulf Alpha antenna is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. It is
the most ruggedly constructed UHF/VHF antenna I have ever seen. Truly an
antenna built to withstand whatever is thrown at it! When in doubt they
machine their parts from solid chunks of aluminum!

Performance seems to follow exactly what one would expect. I
believe they get as much gain as can be expected from the boom length used,
just as any other modern Yagi. Modern antenna modeling has put everyone in
the same ball park for the same boom length.

When I was shopping for station antennas I wish they would have made
the longer Yagis they make now as I would have bought them.

Joe kk0sd

I am interested in a dual band, circular polarized antenna system, I like
the Gulf Alpha system, from the reviews i have read. But their web site is a
bit
thin on info. I go to the dual band section, it talks about FM
antennas...not sure why they would be FM... they arent tuned for SSB part of
band or
what?

What is the model number of their satellite packages?

Anyone use them? I saw an Eham review of one system, great review, but no
antenna model number.

Please direct me...

Hello Bob, Joe et al

I must agree with Joe. I have two of the Dual Gulfalpha antennas for working
the LEOs. Nicely made and easy to assemble. I've had mine for about 2
years.

I hiked out into the cold clear night at about 07:30 UTC tonight and was
rewarded with a nice view of Endeavor as she climbed uphill following her
launch at 07:28 UTC.

She was a lot brighter than I expected - easy to see under the bright
skies within Boston city limits. She gradually increased in brightness as
she passed from southwest to southeast, and then I saw rapid flashing - I
am guessing main engine cut off, external tank separation followed by
separation maneuvering.

T.S. Kelso of celestrak.com made a very nice "scenario" describing the
launch using the viewer software from his company AGI. I used it to help
plan my observation - check it out at
http://celestrak.com/events/sts-123-launch.asp. It is worth the gigantic
(100MB) download. I encourage all who live on the US East Coast to go out
during the next night Shuttle launch and look. Great fun!

ISS Amateur Radio Status: March 11, 2008
By Miles Mann WF1F,

MAREX-MG News	www.marexmg.org

Manned Amateur Radio Experiment

Slow Scan TV from Space Station Mir, 10 years later.

On December 12, 1998 the crew members of the Russian
Space station Mir activated the Marex SSTV system.
Over the next two years the system broadcasted over
20,000 SSTV images back to earth via Amateur Radio.

Many of the images were quiet spectacular.

To celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the successful
imaging project, the Marx team is planning on
upgrading our web page system to accommodate the many
images that were transmitted during the projects 2
year run. In 1998 we just did not have the resources
in place to handle the hundreds of images coming in
every day. As a result only a small select on of the
images were ever posted for public enjoyment.

Here is where we need your help.
Out of the 20,000 images sent to earth, we believe
that only approximately a 1,000 images were saved by
the general amateur radio public around the world. We
would like you to search your disk drives for those
images that you received during the project which ran
from December 1998 until 2000. Please send the images
to Marex so that we can add them to our new web page.

We are interested in high quality and unique images.

In December 98 and January 99, there were many times
when the Mir crews would put on Slid shows for the
public and demonstrate the Musical skills and show us
scenes of the holidays.

One good string of images came from the Mir shutdown
in August 1999. The Mir crew left the SSTV system
running showing inside shots while the crew packet up
the Space Station just before leaving the station.

So start searching your disk dive and see if you can
find some good images.

When you find them please send the Marex and will add
them to our web page.
Here are a few scattered pages with some of the Mir
SSTV images

http://www.marexmg.org/imagessstv/SpaceCamImages1.htm

Images and links for SSTV images from Mir 1998-2001
http://www.marexmg.org/moscow98/index.htm

If you have any more that are different or have better
quality, please forward those images to Marex.
Mail your images to Marex at:
