I tried a few obvious names in the Space-Track lookup, but couldn't
find orbital parameters for the Jules Verne ATV. What is it called?

My old AMSAT laminated chart needs some tweaking and updating, but how can I
find out what sats that are active are transmitting on 145.825? This morning
I had the volume up on my radio and heard packet, looked at Nova and no sats
on my sat list were overhead, not was I getting any decode, maybe signal was
not strong enough.
I will search the AMSAT site and see what I can find.

Here's my list from memory...

UO-11 continuous tones (not AX.25) straight ascii
PCSAT (W3ADO-11) only works on mid-day passes in N hemisphere
ISS

PCSAT-2, ANDE and RAFT have de-orbited. DO-17 is dead

But more in the works.

Well I apologize for sending that note out inviting everyone to come to
a sold out performance. I hope no one was inconvenienced.

For Frank (AB2KT), it was a triumph. Frank was brought up on stage to
give opening remarks about the opera. This was required as this was NOT
a full production of the opera but playing/singing of the full libretto
and Frank's musical interpretation of the traditional mystery play,
without the action. As such, Frank was asked to come up and explain
what action WOULD have taken place had it been a full production. I was
REALLY surprised to FINALLY understand things like the source of
Milton's "plot" for Paradise Lost. Haleh Abghari, a very well known
mezzo-soprano, was spectacular in her role in this.

I wanted to just say how proud I am to have Frank as a friend. He is a
remarkable renaissance man. The master of ceremonies for the program
even delivered my characterization of Frank as a polymath (with my full
support) in the program. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least.
Shann and I really enjoyed the entire experience immensely.

Congratulations Frank!

This is a really sad state of affairs. I've been doing engineering work
for the Arecibo observatory for several years and it's taken a beating
on funding and seems to always be under a cloud of a partial shutdown.

These are both fantastic basic science facilities and it would be a
shame to lose either one. Single antenna terrestrial radio astronomy
seems to be falling into funding cracks for on good reason other than it
lacks the glamor of a big space launch. This facilities will continue
to be very important until something like the SKA can replace them.

When AO-51 changes modes, what time is the change generally done? For
example, the schedule says that AO-51 will start broadcasting 9600 baud
telemetry on 3/10 (today).

Is this done in the morning on the east coast, is it preprogrammed to
happen at some specific UTC time, or what? When are these changes
actually made? It would be nice if the schedule announcement had some
additional precision, something like: on orbit-xyz during the pass over
the abc groundstation, the mode switch is planned.

I have not actually made a contact on VO-52 but I tried last pass. The
person I tried to contact indicated that it sounded like someone (I assume
me) was possibly on the wrong sideband. Should I be transmitting and
receiving in upper sideband? I can sort of hear myself come back, but I
sound off frequency. I am using TRX-Manager and Nova help with the Doppler
Effect.

Any comments are appreciated as I am new at satellites. I am going to try
again next pass.

I am interested in a dual band, circular polarized antenna system, I like
the Gulf Alpha system, from the reviews i have read. But their web site is a
bit
thin on info. I go to the dual band section, it talks about FM
antennas...not sure why they would be FM... they arent tuned for SSB part of
band or
what?

What is the model number of their satellite packages?

Anyone use them? I saw an Eham review of one system, great review, but no
antenna model number.

Please direct me...

It is generally done manually on the evening passes over the command
stations in the US, which is 0000Z-0200Z of the specific date.
But...sometimes things happen. We may wait an orbit to collect some further
whole orbit telemetry. We may not get everything done in one pass to
reconfigure completely. Last month I had a very pushy Verizon FIOS salesman
that showed up 5 minutes before the pass that couldn't take a hint other
than the door in his face.

I wish we could be more specific on exactly when the mode change occurs, but
the simplest way is to just listen. If it's going to be delay for more than
an orbit we'll generally let folks know via amsat-bb.

Hello Jeff and BB,

You are correct that it would be good to have a specific time for the change
over.
That being said, I (and the other commnad stations) do the change over
generally during the eastern US passes and close to the new UTC day.
Things come up for me (and the other volunteer command stations) and I can't
always do the mode changes when I plan to a week before.
Most often the changeover occurs during one or both of the evening eastern
US passes on the UTC date given in the schedule.

73,
Gould, WA4SXM
AO-51 command station
